Accommodation
At IE Scouts Summer Camp, participants sleep in traditional tent camping setups at Camp Emerson. Scouts bring their own tents, sleeping bags and camping gear. The close-to-nature camp environment encourages teamwork in setting up camp, cooking, and maintaining a clean site. The group-living style supports Scouting traditions, with patrols or tent groups sharing the tenting area under the supervision of trained staff. The remote, wooded location helps campers experience authentic outdoor living, build independence, and connect deeply with their surroundings.
Meals
Campers dine together in the camp’s dining hall, where meals are prepared by staff to fuel active days. The menu is designed to support a high-energy week, featuring hearty breakfasts, balanced lunches, and dinners, as well as snacks. Dietary restrictions are accommodated; however, parents are asked to note any special dietary needs at registration. Mealtimes are more than just refueling: they serve as social hubs where Scouts eat, talk, and reflect on their day.
Safety
Safety is a core part of the IE Scouts Summer Camp experience. Staff are trained in first aid, CPR, and Scouting-specific risk management. High-challenge activities, such as ropes courses, climbing, and watercraft use, follow strict supervision policies, with certified instructors guiding Scouts through each exercise. The remote camp layout includes emergency procedures, and all groups operate under a clear check-in and check-out system. The council’s long-standing experience in youth programming helps ensure a structured, secure, and fun camp environment.
Health & Medicine
The camp requires Scouts to submit full health and medical forms before attending, ensuring that staff are aware of any medications, allergies, or other special needs. On-site healthcare is managed by trained personnel capable of handling normal camp illnesses, first aid needs, and routine medication. For more serious medical concerns, Camp Emerson has plans in place for emergency transport and access to local medical facilities. Families are encouraged to communicate any health needs clearly to camp leadership before arrival.
Camp Traditions
IE Scouts Summer Camp honors Scouting traditions while encouraging growth. Each evening, campers gather for campfire reflections, flag ceremonies, song, and shared stories. Patrols play a key role in daily life, building bonds through shared chores, merit-badge work, and team challenges. The camp also emphasizes community responsibility, as scouts help maintain the grounds, keep camp clean, and support one another. These traditions deepen Scout identity, strengthen leadership, and leave lasting memories for both newcomers and returning Scouts.
