Accommodation
Campers stay in rustic cabins shared among small groups. The cabins are modest but comfortable, designed for multiple campers, offering a traditional “sleepaway camp” experience. Living in cabins encourages camaraderie, responsibility, and a sense of community.
Cabins are gender-specific, under careful supervision, and structured so that girls are grouped by age (or as needed). The rustic mountain setting helps children connect with nature and each other, without the distractions of city life. For many campers, the overnight stay and communal living become part of the magic — a chance to build independence, friendships, and shared experiences under the stars.
Meals
Meals at Kahdalea are served in a central dining hall with full kitchen facilities. Food is prepared to meet the needs of active youngsters: nutritious, balanced, and suitable for campers engaged in physical activity all day.
All three meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) are included for overnight campers. The kitchen and dining hall are rated “Grade A,” ensuring food quality and hygiene. Snacks or special dietary needs can be managed by contacting the camp in advance. The communal dining also serves as a social hub — a chance for campers to talk about the day’s adventures and build friendships over shared meals.
Safety
Safety is taken seriously at Kahdalea. Activities such as climbing, canoeing, archery, and horseback riding are supervised by trained staff with established safety procedures. The wilderness setting is carefully managed, trails and activity zones are maintained, and group sizes are kept small to allow attentive supervision.
Cabin life and camping activities follow strict rules: there is a clear policy on allowed (or forbidden) items, including limited electronics, and a strong emphasis on modesty and respect. Campers are taught to look out for one another, respect boundaries, and help maintain a safe community environment.
Health & Medicine
Camp Kahdalea uses a formal medication management program for campers who require daily medications. All medications must be registered in advance using the camp’s pre-packaged medication plan. This helps ensure proper dosage, secure storage, and timely administration by qualified staff.
The camp also maintains first-aid supplies and arrangements for more serious care if needed. For campers traveling by plane, the camp arranges airport pick-up and ensures safe baggage handling. Parents are required to list any health conditions or allergies during registration.
Camp Traditions
At Kahdalea, traditions foster community, respect, and personal growth. One of the core values is “Pull out the Gold,” meaning campers and staff are encouraged to see and speak to the best in each other — focusing on kindness, encouragement, and positive interactions.
Camp traditions also include shared experiences: group hikes, canoe trips, lake swimming, campfire nights, music or guitar sessions, arts and crafts workshops, and sports or field games. These recurring rituals — learning to ride a horse, mastering the climbing wall, paddling on the lake, or spending time in a craft cabin — build a shared history among campers and often become beloved memories they return to year after year.
