The Film and Acting Camp at the New York Film Academy is an intensive, experience-driven program designed for teens who are curious about acting, filmmaking, and how movies are made. The atmosphere is fast-paced, creative, and professional, encouraging campers to take their ideas seriously while still enjoying the excitement of collaboration and discovery.
Campers explore both sides of the camera. Acting sessions focus on performance, character development, and working naturally on screen, while filmmaking activities introduce the fundamentals of visual storytelling, including shot composition, directing, and scene analysis. Learning happens through doing—campers rehearse, perform, and review their work with guidance from instructors who bring real-world industry experience into the classroom.
This program is best suited for teenagers, typically around ages 14–17, who are motivated, expressive, and interested in film or acting. Beginners benefit from structured instruction and supportive feedback, while teens with prior experience enjoy the opportunity to refine skills and work in a more professional-style setting. No formal acting or filmmaking background is required, just curiosity and willingness to participate.
What makes this camp stand out is its immersive approach. Campers don’t just learn about film and acting—they actively create, collaborate, and gain confidence in their creative voice, often leaving with a clearer sense of their interests and potential.

Participants in the Film and Acting Camp have the option to stay in on-campus housing at the New York Film Academy’s Los Angeles campus. Accommodations are designed for comfort and independence, helping students feel settled during an intensive creative program.
Rooms are fully furnished and include practical amenities such as air conditioning, internet access, a refrigerator, and a microwave. Each room has a private bathroom, giving students personal space and convenience throughout their stay. Laundry facilities are available on site, making longer stays easier to manage.
Housing areas are secured with 24-hour security, providing an added layer of supervision and peace of mind. This residential setup allows students to fully immerse themselves in the program, connect with peers outside of class, and experience a structured campus lifestyle while focusing on acting and filmmaking.
Breakfast is included for students staying in campus housing, helping them start each day energized and ready for a full schedule of classes and creative work. This morning meal supports the demanding pace of rehearsals, filming, and workshops.
Other meals are not included in the program. Students typically purchase their own lunches and dinners, either on or off campus, based on personal preferences. The availability of refrigerators and microwaves in the housing rooms gives students the flexibility to store snacks or prepare simple meals.
Dinner expenses vary by individual eating habits, with students commonly budgeting additional funds for evening meals during the week. This flexible approach allows students to choose dining options that fit their tastes while learning to manage daily routines alongside their creative responsibilities.
Student safety is an important focus at the New York Film Academy youth programs. Campers are supervised throughout the day by instructors and staff during classes, rehearsals, and activities. Clear schedules and structured sessions help maintain an organized learning environment.
Film and acting exercises are designed to be age-appropriate and conducted in controlled indoor settings. Instructors provide guidance on safe movement, respectful collaboration, and professional behavior on set. Emotional safety is also emphasized, with instructors fostering a respectful space where campers feel comfortable expressing ideas, taking creative risks, and learning from feedback.
The activities program at the Film and Acting Camp is built around immersive, hands-on learning. Campers participate in daily acting and filmmaking sessions that combine instruction with practical application. Each activity helps teens understand how individual skills come together to create a finished scene.
Acting classes focus on on-camera performance, script interpretation, and emotional authenticity. Campers learn how to work with dialogue, movement, and camera awareness while receiving constructive feedback. Filmmaking sessions introduce the basics of directing and visual storytelling, helping campers understand how scenes are shaped behind the camera.
Collaboration is central to the program. Campers work in small groups, taking turns performing and supporting production roles. This teamwork helps them appreciate the full creative process and build communication skills.
