Overview

Golden Performing Arts Center’s summer program centers on creating a musical theatre production with children and preteens. It runs on a structured weekday schedule and combines focused rehearsals with theatre games, creative activities, and outdoor fun. Whether a child is outgoing or shy, experienced or brand new to performing, every participant is welcomed and given an active role in the process.

Throughout the session, students work together to rehearse a licensed, age-appropriate musical production. They explore acting, singing, movement, and stage presence while learning how a full theatre show comes together. In addition to performance skills, the program helps develop confidence, teamwork, listening skills, and comfort speaking in front of others—abilities that carry over well beyond the stage.

The atmosphere is encouraging and inclusive rather than competitive. Instructors focus on participation and growth, helping each child feel supported while contributing to a shared creative goal. Many families describe the experience as joining a “theatre family,” where friendships form naturally and progress is celebrated along the way. The program is a strong fit for elementary and middle school–aged kids who enjoy storytelling, music, collaboration, and creative self-expression.

Accommodation and Meals

Accommodation

This is a day camp held at the Golden Performing Arts Center. There is no overnight stay, and children return home at the end of each program day. All activities take place on site, within the Center’s dedicated performing arts spaces.

The location is set up specifically for creative programs, with rehearsal rooms, stage areas, and indoor spaces designed for group work and movement. The day is structured so children move comfortably between rehearsals, theatre games, and breaks, without needing to leave the facility. This setting works well for families looking for a focused, arts-based day program in a familiar studio environment.

Meals

Meals are not provided as part of the program. Families may send their child with snacks to enjoy during scheduled breaks. This allows parents to choose food that fits their child’s preferences or dietary needs. It’s best to plan for simple, easy-to-manage snacks and ensure children arrive ready for a full, active day.

Safety

Children’s safety and well-being are a clear priority throughout the program. Activities take place in a controlled indoor environment, with staff supervising students at all times during rehearsals, games, and transitions between activities.

Beyond physical safety, the program places strong emphasis on emotional comfort and inclusion. The atmosphere is supportive and encouraging, helping children feel secure, respected, and confident expressing themselves. Staff members are attentive, approachable, and focused on creating a positive group dynamic where every child feels cared for and valued.

Health & Medicine

As a day program, basic health needs are handled on site with care and attention. Staff members are prepared to respond to minor issues and provide basic first aid if needed.

Families are encouraged to share any relevant medical information in advance so staff can support individual needs appropriately. Children are given regular breaks, access to water, and time to rest between activities. Instructors keep a close eye on students throughout the day, watching for signs of fatigue or discomfort and responding promptly to ensure everyone stays comfortable and supported.

Camp traditions

Golden Performing Arts Center has a long-standing tradition rooted in musical theatre and creative growth. Founded in 1985 with the goal of building self-esteem in young people through the performing arts, the organization has spent more than four decades guiding children and teens along a shared creative path. Each summer program continues this legacy, inviting new participants to step into a tradition shaped by years of stage experience and artistic mentorship.

A defining element of the experience is its Broadway-style approach. Students don’t just rehearse scenes—they take part in a full theatrical journey inspired by professional musical productions. From early rehearsals to the final performance, children learn what it means to work as a true theatre ensemble, following the same creative process used by performers before them.

Another core tradition is the idea of a “theatre family.” Participants work together toward a common goal, building a strong sense of belonging, pride, and shared accomplishment. The emphasis is not on competition, but on collaboration, effort, and celebrating each child’s contribution to the final production.

The program balances structured rehearsal time with creative exercises and group activities. Theatre games help students warm up, explore characters, and feel comfortable performing in front of others. Outdoor breaks and shared playtime add variety and energy to the day.
