Accommodation
Campers at Hume SoCal stay in dorm-style cabins. Each dorm houses up to 56 campers, split into two wings with 28 bunks per wing. Bunks are not basic—they use real innerspring mattresses rather than plywood or foam, which helps campers sleep well after a full day. There’s shared storage space, so personal items stay off the floor. Each pair of wings shares a central bathhouse with private showers and stalls, designed to reduce wait times and increase privacy.
Meals
Meals are served in a large dining hall that seats around 400 people. The style is buffet-like, allowing campers to choose what they take, while staff make sure dietary needs are met: gluten-free, vegetarian, and dairy-free options are explicitly available. There is also a snack shop / rec room on-site, which includes fun hangout space, ping-pong, pool tables, and more — perfect for downtime between activities.
Safety
Hume SoCal emphasizes both challenge and safety. All high-adventure elements (like the zip-line, log walk, and leap-of-faith) are run by trained staff under strict safety protocols. Counselors supervise campers closely during recreation and activity periods. The camp discourages electronic devices to keep attention on community and faith formation, and emergency systems are in place to handle any incident.
Health & Medicine
The camp has a health center staffed by medical personnel and is equipped with first-aid supplies, AEDs, and other rescue equipment. Because the SoCal campus is closer to external medical care, there is no full-time doctor on site; but the health center is stocked, and in case of serious illness or injury, staff can transport campers to nearby care if needed. Sick campers are evaluated for fever or contagious symptoms, and there is a policy to isolate until they’re fever-free for 24 hours without medication.
Camp Traditions
Hume SoCal has several traditions that shape the camper experience. Worship is woven into the daily rhythm — campers worship in large groups, small groups, and in their cabins. Evening fire-circle gatherings encourage storytelling, prayer, and reflection under the stars. Each summer’s creative theme guides teaching, games, and stage production, helping campers engage deeply with biblical truths. Rec games and competitions build teamwork, while high-adventure challenges give campers a chance to demonstrate courage, perseverance, and faith.
