Summer at LACM offers a focused, creative day camp experience centered on modern music education. The atmosphere is energetic, collaborative, and encouraging, designed to help students feel comfortable expressing themselves while challenging them to improve. Campers are surrounded by musicians of similar interests, which naturally sparks collaboration and motivation.
The program emphasizes practical, hands-on learning. Campers spend time performing, rehearsing, writing music, and exploring how bands and ensembles work together. Instruction blends guided lessons with real-world practice, allowing students to apply new skills immediately. Faculty members support campers with constructive feedback while encouraging individuality and creativity.
This camp is especially appealing to middle- and high-school-age students, generally around ages 12–18, who already have some interest or experience in music. Younger participants benefit from structured instruction and ensemble work, while older campers enjoy deeper exploration of performance, songwriting, and collaboration. Multiple experience levels are supported, and students are grouped to help them feel challenged but not overwhelmed.
What makes Summer at LACM stand out is its real college-music atmosphere. Campers don’t just take classes—they experience what it’s like to study music seriously, work with other dedicated musicians, and grow both technically and creatively.

Summer at LACM offers an arranged housing option for campers who need accommodation during the program. Students stay in a hotel setting, providing a comfortable and structured environment that supports both independence and supervision. Rooms are shared, with roommate requests accepted when submitted in advance, though placement cannot be guaranteed.
Housing includes on-site support to help ensure student well-being. Resident advisers and hotel security personnel are present, and an on-site nurse is available to address basic health needs. This setup allows students to focus on music and daily activities while parents can feel confident about supervision and care.
Each morning, students receive breakfast vouchers for the hotel, helping them start the day prepared for classes and rehearsals. The housing option is designed to balance comfort, safety, and a taste of independent living.
Meals at Summer at LACM are designed to be flexible, allowing families to choose what works best for their student. Breakfast is included for students staying in arranged housing via daily vouchers redeemable at the hotel.
Other meals are optional and can be added separately through the camp’s add-on form. Families may choose to add lunch only or both lunch and dinner, depending on the student’s schedule and preferences. This approach gives students freedom while still offering convenient meal options during busy camp days.
Students not enrolled in meal add-ons are responsible for their own meals outside of breakfast. This flexible structure works well for a range of needs and eating habits, especially for older campers managing their daily routines.
The activities program at Summer at LACM is designed to immerse campers in music-making from start to finish. Campers spend each day rehearsing, performing, and collaborating in a structured but creative environment. Learning is project-based, helping students see real progress in a short time.
Performance and ensemble work are central to the program. Campers practice playing with others, listening closely, and adapting their sound within a group. Songwriting and creative sessions encourage campers to develop original ideas and express their musical voice. Faculty guide students through techniques, stage presence, and musical communication.
The program balances instruction with hands-on practice, giving campers plenty of time to apply what they learn. Grouping by skill level helps ensure everyone stays engaged and challenged.
