The Young Writers Workshop at NC State is a two-week summer program that gives budding authors ages 10-14 the chance to dive deep into the world of creative writing. Established in 1986, this nonprofit camp has a rich history of nurturing young talent and is sponsored by the NC State College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department of English. Designed for aspiring writers, the workshop offers a supportive environment where kids can explore their creativity and develop their writing skills. With small group sizes and one-on-one instruction from professional writers and educators, campers receive personalized guidance on everything from plot development to character creation. The program covers various genres, allowing students to experiment with different styles of writing while honing their craft. Each day, campers participate in two 65-minute classes with a break in between to recharge. The low student-to-teacher ratio ensures that every young writer gets the attention they need to grow. The camp culminates in a celebration where participants have the opportunity to share their work with family and friends during a reading event. Campers also receive a printed anthology featuring their writing—a keepsake that captures their hard work and creativity. If your child has a passion for storytelling or simply wants to improve their writing skills in a fun and encouraging setting, the Young Writers Workshop at NC State is an excellent choice!
