Spend the summer moving through a broad mix of dance styles at San Diego Ballet School’s home studios. The Summer Dance Camp is designed for ages 8 to 15 and combines Ballet, Pre-Pointe/Pointe, Jazz, Character, Modern, Tap, and Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT). Students are divided into two groups based on age and ability, giving the program a structure that reflects where each dancer is in their training while still sharing the same multi-style camp experience.
Camp runs from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM and can be taken for one, two, or three weeks. The program emphasizes dance training alongside flexibility, coordination, musicality, self-discipline, and healthy exercise. Classes are taught by San Diego Ballet School teachers in the organization’s home facility, Dorothea Laub Dance Place at Liberty Station in Point Loma. The setting keeps the focus on studio work while exposing students to several theatrical dance forms during the same summer program.
The camp builds toward a concluding performance at the Light Box Theater. For children who enjoy learning choreography and technique, trying more than one dance form, and working toward a performance, the program offers a concentrated studio-based summer experience connected directly to San Diego Ballet School.

The Summer Dance Camp is a one-to-three-week day program for ages 8 to 15. Camp hours are 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM, and students are separated into two groups according to age and ability. Training spans Ballet, Pre-Pointe/Pointe, Jazz, Character, Modern, Tap, and Progressing Ballet Technique, giving dancers focused repeated studio time while also introducing different movement vocabularies and performance styles.
Progressing Ballet Technique is part of the school’s broader training approach and uses ballet-specific conditioning exercises to build muscle memory and support technique. The camp page also highlights flexibility, coordination, musicality, self-discipline, and healthy exercise as benefits of the program. Rather than centering on a single dance form, the camp combines classical ballet work with complementary theatrical dance techniques across the summer day.
Families can select one, two, or three weeks of the program. Training takes place at San Diego Ballet & School’s home studios in Dorothea Laub Dance Place at Liberty Station. The program concludes with a performance at the Light Box Theater, giving students a defined performance goal at the end of the camp period.
Camp classes are taught by San Diego Ballet School teachers. Karen Foster serves as School Director and has teaching experience in tap, jazz, and ballet. The school’s faculty also includes instructors in ballet and Progressing Ballet Technique with professional dance and teaching backgrounds. San Diego Ballet School describes its training center as providing quality dance instruction by caring professionals.
