Overview

iD Tech at SDSU brings together world-class STEM curriculum, college-campus energy, and a supportive social environment. Campers dive into coding, game design, robotics, 3D modeling, and more — guided by instructors recruited from top universities and tech backgrounds. The camp creates a space for creativity and problem-solving, encouraging kids to build apps, robots, games, or even explore 3D printing. At the same time, campers enjoy campus life: between labs, they play outdoor games, relax in green spaces, and get a taste of what real college life feels like.

The program is designed for children ages 7–17, with beginner to advanced skill levels accepted. This makes it ideal for kids just discovering tech, as well as for those already passionate and looking to deepen their skills. Younger campers get hands-on entry-level courses like basic coding or game-modding, while older kids or teens may choose more advanced tracks — robotics, AI, or game dev. The mix of serious learning and relaxed play ensures that everyone can find a place, regardless of prior experience or tech skill level.

Why We Love It

  • Cutting-edge tech camps: coding, robotics, game design, 3D art — great for curious and creative kids.
  • Balanced mix: deep STEM learning in labs and social time / outdoor recreation for a well-rounded camp experience.
  • A welcoming, flexible environment for beginners and advanced campers alike — everyone can build, create, and belong.

Best for

  • Kids and teens (ages 7–17) interested in technology, gaming, robotics, digital art, or coding.
  • Young people who like a mix of screen work and social/outdoor activities.
  • Families looking for a reliable summer camp that combines learning, fun, creativity, and flexibility.

Accommodation and Meals

Accommodation

The standard offering at SDSU is a day camp — no residential housing is part of the regular program at this location. Campers attend during the day and return home in the evenings.

Meals

For day-camp participants, meals are not automatically provided. Camp families are responsible for packing a lunch, snacks, and a refillable water bottle for their child each day.

If an overnight/residential option is selected (when available), meals (breakfast through dinner) and dorm housing are included in the camp fee. The camp also accommodates special dietary needs if notified in advance.

Safety

Safety at iD Tech is supported by several measures: all instructors are vetted, background-checked, and trained before camp begins. They follow established guidelines for supervision, behavioral expectations, and safe lab practices. Students work in small groups, which helps ensure individual attention and responsible use of equipment.

For outdoor activities and breaks, staff supervise games and free-time periods, ensuring safe play and smooth transitions between labs, meals, and recreation. Drop-off and pick-up times are clearly structured, helping parents stay informed and campers stay accounted for.

Health & Medicine

iD Tech requires that any required medications be submitted to the Camp Director upon check-in. This includes the prescribed medication a camper must take during camp. The camp staff monitors medication administration according to given instructions. The program also accommodates students with dietary restrictions or allergies, provided families share this information in advance.

Beyond these procedures, the public camp materials do not specify a dedicated health center or on-site infirmary, so families should plan accordingly (e.g., bringing necessary medications, having insurance info accessible, etc.).

Camp Traditions

iD Tech has developed a tradition of mixing serious tech learning with playful summer-camp culture. Across sessions, you’ll find:

Weekly projects — campers work on a coding, robotics, or 3D project, and often showcase results at the end of the week.

Outdoor/recreation breaks — labs are balanced with time for games, campus walks, or group sports, giving kids a chance to recharge and socialize.

Social events/gaming tournaments / casual fun — evenings or downtime may include gaming sessions, board games, or relaxed hangouts where campers bond beyond screens and code.

Creative, student-driven work — kids are encouraged to bring their own ideas, experiment, and personalize projects, helping each camper build a sense of ownership and accomplishment.

These traditions help iD Tech feel less like a rigid class and more like a fun, inspiring summer community.
