Scripps Theatre Arts offers a fun, high-energy musical theatre summer camp for children roughly ages 5–12. What makes this camp stand out is its weekly production-style format: each session is dedicated to mounting a kid-friendly musical (like Seussical Kids, Frozen Kids, Aladdin Kids, or Lion King Kids), giving campers a whole experience in acting, singing, choreography, and teamwork.
Small group size and supportive instruction make this camp ideal for both first-timers and kids with some experience — everyone gets a role and the chance to perform. The atmosphere is collaborative rather than competitive, with emphasis on creativity, fun, and growth. Beyond performance skills, campers develop self-confidence, communication, and stage presence.
If your child loves music, movement, stories, or making new friends, this camp offers a lively, expressive environment to explore those interests. Mainly for kids in early elementary to pre-teen years, Scripps Theatre Arts provides a joyful, structured summer experience where creativity and community go hand in hand.

Scripps Theatre Arts takes safety and supervision seriously. Camp groups start each day with check-in and finish with pick-up; no child is released unless a parent, guardian, or authorized adult is present. Early drop-off (after 8:30 a.m.) and late pick-up (until 3:30 p.m. or 4:00 p.m., depending on the session) are available for families who need flexibility, but only for those who sign up in advance. This helps ensure staff know which children remain on-site and when.
During the camp day, all activities are led by experienced instructors familiar with youth theatre, and class sizes are limited to ensure effective supervision. The camp enforces standard protocols for cleanliness, hygiene, and general child safety, creating a secure environment for creative exploration.
From audition-style casting on day one to the final performance recorded at week’s end, Scripps Theatre Arts builds community through ritual and creative collaboration. Every camp concludes with a production of the week’s show — a milestone that celebrates all campers’ work and gives them a tangible memento of their effort. Along the way, children rehearse songs and choreography, play theatre games, and connect through shared creative challenges. It’s in these repeated, shared experiences — practice, performance, and fun — that campers build confidence, bonds, and a sense of belonging.
Many families return for multiple sessions, drawn by the welcoming environment and supportive peer group. For many kids, the “Scripps summer” becomes a memorable summer tradition — one filled with laughter, growth, and stage-struck pride.
Scripps Theatre Arts Summer Camp is built around the process of mounting a full children’s musical in just one week. Campers begin the week with auditions and casting, then dive into rehearsals for acting, singing, and dance. As the week progresses, they learn scenes, choreography, songs, and character work, all while building camaraderie with fellow campers. On the final afternoon, the production is recorded, giving every child a chance to see their work. Along the way, the camp mixes skill-building with fun theatre games, team activities, and expressive play, making the day as joyful as it is developmental.
All camp registration sales are final and non-refundable.
Parents must complete the required forms before the first day of camp.
No child will be released without a parent or authorized adult present at pick-up.
