Sitka Fine Arts Camp

The Sitka Fine Arts Camp is a nationally celebrated program that has been enriching the lives of Alaskan youth since 1973. Located on the historic Sheldon Jackson College campus in Sitka, Alaska, this camp provides an inclusive and inspiring environment for students to explore their creativity across various disciplines, including music, theater, visual arts, dance, creative writing, and Alaska Native arts. Each summer, the camp offers four sessions tailored to different age groups: a Mini Camp for younger children, Middle School Camp, High School Camp, and a Musical Theater Camp for high school and college students. The curriculum includes over 160 classes taught by professional artists from across the country. Students can immerse themselves in activities such as ceramics, photography, mask-making, video production, and even circus arts. Every session culminates in performances and art exhibits that showcase the students' growth and talent. The camp's mission extends beyond individual skill-building. It aims to strengthen community ties by providing access to high-quality arts education in a state where such opportunities are often limited due to remoteness. Under the leadership of Executive Director Roger Schmidt since 2000, the camp has grown significantly, now serving nearly 1,000 students annually. The revitalization of its campus is a testament to the extraordinary community support it has garnered. Recognized nationally for its excellence, Sitka Fine Arts Camp has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious *Coming Up Taller Award* from the President’s Committee on Arts and Humanities.
