SKATESIDE Camps South Pasadena is a skateboarding-focused program built for kids who want to ride, improve, and have fun doing it. The atmosphere is upbeat and supportive. Campers spend their days learning skateboarding fundamentals, building new tricks step by step, and practicing in a structured setting with experienced coaches.
The program balances skill development with play. Beginners learn how to stand, push, turn, and stop safely. More experienced riders work on ramps, balance, board control, and trick progression. Coaches break skills into small, achievable steps so kids can feel progress quickly. That sense of progress is a big part of the camp’s appeal.
This camp is best suited for elementary and middle school–age children who have the coordination and focus for skateboarding instruction. It works well for both cautious beginners and energetic kids who need a healthy outlet. Skateboarding demands balance, patience, and resilience. When kids fall and get back up, they build more than just physical skills. They build grit.
Expect full days of movement, coaching, and plenty of high-fives.

SKATESIDE Camps take place at South Pasadena Skate Park, a well-known local spot designed specifically for skateboarding. This is a structured day camp, and campers return home each afternoon.
The skate park offers a mix of smooth concrete surfaces, ramps, ledges, rails, and transition features that allow riders to practice at different levels. There are open flow areas for beginners working on balance and pushing, as well as more technical elements for kids ready to try drops and tricks. The layout supports safe skill progression because coaches can separate groups by ability and control traffic flow.
The park is praised by local riders for being clean, well-maintained, and community-oriented. Its manageable size makes supervision easier, while still giving kids plenty of room to move. Shade areas and seating around the park provide space for breaks between riding sessions.
There is no overnight lodging provided. Families are responsible for daily drop-off and pick-up.
Campers are typically expected to bring their own lunch, snacks, and a refillable water bottle. Because skateboarding is physically demanding, it’s important that children pack enough food to stay energized throughout the day. Easy-to-eat options like sandwiches, wraps, fruit, protein snacks, and plenty of water work well.
Families should consider their child’s dietary preferences or restrictions when packing food. Sending extra hydration is always a good idea, especially during warm summer days.
Safety is a central focus at SKATESIDE Camps. Skateboarding always carries some risk, so structured supervision and protective gear are key parts of the experience.
Campers are required to wear helmets. Additional protective gear such as knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards is strongly encouraged and may be required depending on skill level and activity. Coaches teach proper falling techniques early on, which helps reduce injury risk.
Instruction happens in controlled areas with staff monitoring all activity. Skills are introduced in stages. Beginners are not pushed into advanced tricks before they are ready.
Clear behavioral expectations are set to keep the environment respectful and safe for all riders.
Families are responsible for informing the camp of any medical conditions, allergies, or special health needs prior to attendance.
Because camp days are active and outdoors, hydration and sun protection are important. Campers should arrive wearing sunscreen and may bring additional sunscreen to reapply as needed. A hat and lightweight athletic clothing are recommended.
If a child requires medication during the camp day, families should coordinate directly with camp staff in advance. Any medical instructions must be clearly communicated.
In the event of minor scrapes or falls, staff are prepared to respond appropriately and notify families if needed.
Skateboarding culture is built on community, and that spirit carries into SKATESIDE Camps.
Campers often celebrate personal milestones. Landing a first drop-in. Rolling down a ramp without help. Sticking a new trick. These moments matter, and they’re recognized with cheers and encouragement from coaches and peers.
Group challenges and friendly skill showcases may take place throughout the session. These are not high-pressure competitions. Instead, they give campers a chance to show what they’ve learned and support one another.
The shared experience of learning something difficult creates strong bonds. By the end of the week, many kids leave not just as better skateboarders, but as part of a crew.
At SKATESIDE Camps, the focus stays on skateboarding from start to finish. Each day combines instruction, drills, practice time, and guided challenges. Coaches meet campers at their skill level and help them move forward with confidence. The goal is steady improvement, not pressure.
Campers rotate through skill-building sessions and open ride time. Beginners gain strong fundamentals. Intermediate riders refine technique and experiment with new tricks. Coaches provide direct feedback throughout the day.
Campers are generally expected to bring their own skateboard and protective gear unless rental options are arranged in advance. Proper athletic clothing and closed-toe shoes are recommended for safety and comfort.
