Hands-on STEM work drives the camp experience at StemTree Irvine. Campers move through science, coding, robotics, electricity and electronics, with mathematics available during select camps. Instead of following a traditional classroom format, students receive individualized instruction and begin each subject with an assessment that helps set the level of their work. The result is a camp structure built around active projects, experiments, programming, construction, and problem-solving rather than a single fixed lesson for every child.
The learning plan is designed to follow each student from camp to camp. As children return for additional weeks, they can build on knowledge gained earlier instead of repeating the same material. In science, students work with age-appropriate experiments and concepts. Coding develops programming fundamentals through games, apps, stories, animation, music, and other media. Robotics combines design, construction, revision, and programming, while electricity and electronics introduces circuits and electrical components through hands-on work.
StemTree Irvine offers morning and full-day camp formats, with extended hours available at the Irvine location. The broader Stemtree program serves K-12 students, and the curriculum is customized by grade, assessment results, knowledge level, and experience. This format is a strong match for children who like to learn by making, testing, debugging, building, and asking how things work.

Camp begins with an assessment in each subject a student will work on. Those results are used to create a customized learning plan, so campers can enter at different knowledge and experience levels. The instructional model is one-on-one rather than a traditional classroom sequence, and the program is designed to be self-paced. When a student attends more than one camp, the learning plan follows them and later weeks can build on what they already completed.
Science work uses grade-dependent concepts, experiments, age-appropriate activities, and vocabulary games. Coding develops programming fundamentals and can lead to computer games, apps, interactive stories, animations, music, art, and other media, with practice in problem-solving, project design, debugging, conditionals, variables, and sequences. Robotics introduces design, construction, revision, computer programming, mechanical design, and increasingly complex builds. Electricity and electronics focuses on electricity fundamentals, circuit safety, and electrical components through hands-on circuit work.
Mathematics can be added during select camps. The math curriculum is also grade-dependent and uses physical manipulatives, assessment results, and the student’s existing knowledge to shape the lesson plan. Across subjects, the common structure is practical work matched to the student’s level, with room to progress at an individual pace.
The South Irvine team includes a center director, a lead STEM instructor, and multiple STEM instructors with backgrounds spanning software engineering, computer science, mechanical and electrical engineering, chemical engineering, mathematics-computer science, teaching, tutoring, and science education. The center describes its instruction as one-on-one and individualized. Staff profiles include experience teaching technical subjects to children and students, tutoring, simplifying complex concepts, and adapting instruction to individual learning styles and needs. The director holds engineering and computer science degrees, while the lead instructor combines mechanical engineering experience with many years of teaching computer-related subjects.
The camp is based at Stemtree’s South Irvine education center. The Irvine location offers morning camps and full-day camps, with extended hours available. Registration is handled through the Sawyer portal linked directly from the South Irvine camp page. Campers who attend more than one week can continue with the customized learning plan created from their assessments, allowing later camp weeks to build on prior work rather than restarting the same sequence. The program is designed so each week can add to knowledge gained in earlier weeks, while the student’s learning plan follows them from camp to camp.
