Overview
The Auburn Jr. Vet Camp, held at Auburn University in Alabama, is a premier summer program for aspiring veterinarians in grades 6 through 8. This immersive experience offers a hands-on introduction to veterinary medicine, giving participants the chance to work with a variety of animals, including beagles, horses, goats, snakes, dairy cattle, and llamas. From June 18 to June 23, campers will dive into activities guided by veterinary students and professionals, exploring topics like parasitology, pathology, anatomy, and animal care.
What makes this camp even more special is the opportunity to attend through the Vet Set Go “Become a Veterinarian Camp Contest”, sponsored by VCA Animal Hospitals. Open to rising 6th–8th graders across the U.S., this scholarship contest awards 45 students a full prize package valued at $1,200. The package includes tuition, materials, and room and board for the camp. Winners are selected based on a short essay (300 words or less) addressing their passion for animals, interest in veterinary science, or experiences working with animals.
During the camp week, participants will explore Auburn’s veterinary college facilities, engage in hands-on labs and outdoor activities, and learn about careers in veterinary science. Beyond academics, campers enjoy dormitory living on campus and social activities that foster teamwork and friendships with peers who share their dreams of becoming veterinarians.
