Calming Bee Summer Camps

Calming Bee Summer Camps

Chula Vista, CA, USA

Overview

Summer days revolve around a mix of creativity, movement, games, outdoor exploration, and mindful practice. Children ages 3–8 spend the week moving between CalmingBee’s Gameschooling-Learning & Emotions format and Arts, Learn & Play. Mondays and Fridays emphasize games-based learning and emotional development, while Tuesdays through Thursdays center on arts-based experiences. Across the week, activities may include clay sculpting, poetry, storytelling, Spanish language activities, group games, guided play, movement, and time outdoors together.

The program is structured around small-group attention, with a 6:1 child-to-teacher ratio. Activities vary with the needs of the children, and CalmingBee’s approach emphasizes naturalistic learning rather than repetitive drills. No prior art or outdoor experience is required. Mindfulness exercises and group activities are used to support confidence, empathy, teamwork, and emotional awareness, while creative work and outdoor exploration give children different ways to participate.

Regular camp hours run Monday through Friday from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM, with optional aftercare until 5:00 PM. Families are asked to send a healthy snack or lunch, water, sunscreen, wipes, a tote or bookbag, and a labeled change of clothes. The program fits children who enjoy a varied day combining art, play, movement, learning games, and time outdoors.

Program

Summer classes run Monday through Friday from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM. The week follows a clear pattern: Gameschooling-Learning & Emotions is scheduled on Mondays and Fridays, while Arts, Learn & Play is scheduled on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Optional aftercare extends the day from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The weekly mix gives children repeated opportunities to engage through different formats without requiring prior experience in any one activity.

The Gameschooling format uses activities such as obstacle courses, board games, movement, reading comprehension, math games, and clay. Arts, Learn & Play brings in sculpting, music, poetry, story writing, movement activities, and moments of silence or being present. The summer program also includes outdoor exploration, Spanish language activities, games, guided play, group activities, and mindfulness exercises. Rather than relying on repetitive drills, activities can vary with the needs of the children and are presented through hands-on, naturalistic experiences.

A 6:1 child-to-teacher ratio supports small-group attention. Children do not need prior experience in art or outdoor activities to take part. Through creative, game-based, outdoor, and mindfulness activities, children have multiple ways to participate, learn, and work alongside other children throughout each camp day.

Safety

CalmingBee maintains a 6:1 child-to-teacher ratio and describes its groups as small. Indoor and outdoor activities are conducted with supervision in a secure, child-friendly environment. The program cannot currently support children with known aggressive behaviors such as hitting, kicking, or throwing objects at others, or known elopement behavior. CalmingBee also states that it cannot provide one-to-one assistance for those behaviors because staff must maintain supervision of the full group.

Staff

CalmingBee’s founder, Marcela, has worked with children for 11 years in one-to-one, group, and classroom settings. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and is certified in behavior analysis. Her background includes teaching art from a young age, work at a nature school, and collaboration with occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and physical therapists. CalmingBee’s summer program maintains a 6:1 child-to-teacher ratio.

Communication

Families can use CalmingBee’s website contact form for enrollment questions and general communication. The summer program encourages parents to reach out when they need additional information, and registration begins through the program’s online enrollment/contact page.
