Camp Hazen’s daily schedule includes dedicated activity periods where campers participate in skill-based programs led by trained staff. These activity times are designed to give campers the chance to learn new skills, explore different interests, and gain confidence through hands-on experiences.
During our two-week sessions, campers choose and sign up for classes that they attend throughout the session. This allows them to build skills over time, work toward goals, and develop a deeper connection to the activity. Campers select from a wide range of options across our four primary program areas: Creative Arts, Outdoor Pursuits, Land Sports, and Water Sports. Creative Arts may include activities like arts and crafts or other hands-on creative projects. Outdoor Pursuits focuses on adventure and nature-based activities such as climbing or archery. Land Sports includes a variety of recreational sports like tennis, basketball, and skate park. Water Sports takes place on Cedar Lake and includes activities like swimming and boating.
In our one-week sessions, campers participate in activity bundles rather than individual class sign-ups. These bundles group several related activities together so campers can experience a variety of programs during their shorter stay while still building familiarity with staff and program areas.
In addition to the four skill-based program areas, campers also take part in a fifth program area focused on group development and adventure. During these periods, cabin groups work together on team-building initiatives and challenges that strengthen communication, trust, and cooperation. These activities often take place on our high ropes course and zipline, giving campers the opportunity to support one another while trying exciting new experiences as a group.
Together, these structured activity periods help campers discover new interests, build skills, and share meaningful experiences with their cabin group and the broader camp community.
