Camp Kroc

Camp Kroc

San Diego, CA, USA

Overview

Camp days move across the Kroc Center campus, giving children chances to swim, skate, climb, play sports, make art, and try hands-on learning in the same program. Camp Kroc serves children ages 4–14 through age-based traditional groups and specialty choices in aquatics, STEM, sports, creative arts, cooking, theater, and other themes. Younger Pee Wee campers have programming designed for ages 4–5, while older campers can choose from Kroc Adventures and focused specialty camps.

The program is built as a day-camp experience, with regular hours from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Traditional Kroc Adventures groups rotate through age-appropriate activities such as swimming, ice skating, sports, STEM projects, climbing, and arts and crafts. Specialty camps devote more time to a particular interest—such as swim instruction, soccer, robotics, chemistry, painting, drama, or culinary skills—while still using other Kroc Center activities during the week when scheduled.

Breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack are provided for summer campers. Camp Kroc is accredited by the American Camp Association. Staff are screened and trained, and camp policies include controlled sign-in and sign-out procedures, authorized pickup requirements, and health information on file. This format can suit children who like active days, variety, and the option to explore a specific interest within a large recreation and arts campus.

Program

Camp Kroc combines traditional day-camp rotations with specialty programs. Kroc Adventures organizes campers into age-appropriate groups and uses the wider Kroc Center campus for swimming, sports, ice skating, STEM projects, climbing, and arts and crafts. Pee Wee Camp gives ages 4–5 a first-camp format focused on movement, group interaction, and a smaller set of age-appropriate activities; Pee Wee campers also have scheduled swimming opportunities.

Specialty camps give campers more concentrated time in one subject. Swim Camp includes a daily 40-minute lesson with certified instructors plus recreation swim time. Sports camps can spend up to three hours a day on sport-specific skills, practice, and play, with the rest of the day using other camp activities. STEM options use hands-on experiments and projects, including chemistry, geology, coding, LEGO-based building, and robotics. Creative and arts choices include visual art, stop-motion, fiber arts, magic, theater, movement, and culinary projects.

The camp day runs Monday through Friday with drop-off from 7:30–9:00 AM and pickup from 3:30–5:00 PM. Parents receive camp updates by email, including session-specific schedule information before camp. Across formats, the published program emphasizes active participation, group experiences, and supervised use of the Kroc Center’s recreation, aquatics, ice, climbing, arts, and field spaces.

Safety

Camp Kroc is accredited by the American Camp Association, and the camp describes staff screening, background checks, ongoing training, and safety procedures as part of its operating standards. Campers must be signed in and out in the presence of Kroc Center staff. Pickup is limited to authorized adults, and adults signing a child out must present current photo identification. Camp rules require children to stay with their group and use a counselor-and-buddy procedure when leaving the group for the restroom or another location. The center also publishes behavior expectations, including rules against bullying and requirements to follow counselor directions.

Medical Care

Parents must provide current health information before camp. The published policies require an assumption-of-risk and health-history form, health insurance information, and the date of the child’s most recent tetanus shot, with updated information submitted each camp season. Camp Kroc also provides a medical information form among its parent forms. Families managing food allergies or dietary restrictions are encouraged to send food from home when needed.

Staff

Camp Kroc says team members are carefully selected through interviews and screening, with background checks and ongoing training. Many staff members bring professional experience or specialized education in the areas they lead. The camp page also identifies youth-development leadership with experience across day camp, overnight camp, childcare, enrichment programs, family camping, and outdoor science education. Specialty descriptions refer to experienced coaches, teachers, and certified swim instructors for relevant programs.

Communication

Parents receive Camp Kroc updates by email. Before a session, the camp sends a welcome email with final schedule details, group assignments, and camp-specific instructions. Meal and snack menus are also sent before the camp week. The camp provides a day-camp office contact for questions during the week, while public text here omits direct contact details.

Logistics

Drop-off is scheduled from 7:30–9:00 AM and pickup from 3:30–5:00 PM. The published policy places regular drop-off and pickup at the Recreation Field entrance. Campers must be signed in and out each day, and pickup is restricted to adults listed as authorized; photo identification is required. Families arriving outside the standard drop-off or pickup window report to the Day Camp Office. Required enrollment and health information must be complete before participation. Camp rules also ask families to leave toys, electronics, and money at home.
