Overnight campers stay in supervised lodging provided by the camp, offering a full boarding experience from Monday through Friday. The lodging environment is structured, safe, and designed to help campers bond with peers while feeling comfortable throughout their stay. Rooms are grouped by age, with counselors present for supervision and support. Overnight campers participate in additional evening activities, making the experience even more immersive.
Day campers do not stay overnight, but enjoy the same daytime program, workshops, and activities. The overnight option is handy for families traveling to the camp from outside the region or for young broadcasters seeking a more complete “away-from-home” experience.
Meals are provided for both day and overnight campers. The camp offers hot breakfast, catered lunch, and afternoon snacks for all participants. Overnight campers also receive dinner and late-night snacks. The meal plan is designed to give campers the energy and focus they need throughout a full day of broadcasting activities, field trips, and workshops.
Parents of children with dietary restrictions may choose to opt out of camp-provided meals and send their own food instead. This option ensures that campers with allergies or specific nutritional needs can safely participate while maintaining a consistent routine. Families are encouraged to communicate dietary needs in advance so the camp can support each child appropriately.
The camp follows clear safety guidelines to ensure a secure environment during all activities, including studio sessions, workshops, field trips, and overnight stays. Staff supervise campers closely throughout the day and night, and all equipment is used under proper instruction. Field trips include structured check-in and check-out procedures, with staff accompanying campers at all times.
Camp rules emphasize respect for peers, staff, and equipment. The structured daily schedule and supervised accommodations help ensure that campers remain safe, engaged, and supported. The camp environment is organized to provide both freedom for creative exploration and boundaries that protect everyone.
Charlotte Youth Broadcasting Camp builds its traditions around creativity, collaboration, and shared accomplishments. Although not a wilderness-style camp, it fosters strong bonds through hands-on media projects, team reporting assignments, and group presentations. Many returning campers highlight the sense of pride they feel after producing their first news segment, podcast episode, or video feature.
Guest speakers from television, sports broadcasting, radio, and journalism are a notable hallmark of the camp experience. Field trips to real studios also create memorable moments, giving campers firsthand exposure to professional environments. By the end of each session, campers often form friendships, grow more confident, and take home a sense of achievement from their media creations.
The camp’s program is designed to immerse kids in the world of broadcasting, helping them build real media skills while gaining confidence and creativity. Campers participate in a mix of structured lessons, hands-on production sessions, teamwork-based projects, and professional exposure. The goal is to help each child create real content — whether it’s a news report, sports update, interview, podcast, or feature video.
Throughout the week, campers rotate through skill-building workshops including on-camera delivery, public speaking, script writing, and equipment handling. They also explore editing techniques, audio mixing, interviewing skills, and newsroom-style collaboration. Field trips to professional studios give them an insider’s look at how broadcasters work, while guest speakers provide advice and inspiration. Overnight campers enjoy additional evening activities that strengthen teamwork and community.
