Fort Lone Tree Camp

Fort Lone Tree Camp

Capitan, NM, USA

Overview

Embarking on a journey to Lone Tree Camps is like stepping into a storybook adventure. Since its humble beginnings in 1975, this camp has offered children a taste of traditional, rustic living combined with thrilling activities. From a simple hand water pump and a repurposed chicken coop, to a stone house transformed into a bustling kitchen and dining room, Lone Tree has always been a place where simplicity meets excitement. Activities at Lone Tree aren’t for the faint of heart. Children are plunged into a world of exhilarating horseback riding, daredevil mountain rappelling, and pulse-raising white water canoe trips. These experiences, packed with adventure and adrenaline, are carefully chosen to awaken a sense of discovery and bravery in every camper. The camp's growth has been a labor of love, with new buildings sprouting up every year. But, amidst the expansion, the camp’s board was adamant about preserving its intimate atmosphere. Instead of transforming into a large, impersonal facility, they decided to spawn a sister camp with the same purpose and goals. Thus, in 1980, a second Lone Tree Bible Ranch was born in Capitan, New Mexico. This new camp was built from the ground up, using logs hauled from the nearby Apache reservation. Each one was carefully shaped by chainsaws, giving birth to the first New Mexico camp lodge. The camp directors, Tim and Charlene Worrell, even called an 8x10 foot canvas tent home for their first two months there, a testament to the camp's commitment to simple, yet fulfilling, living. Lone Tree Camps is a place where children can connect with nature, learn survival skills, and grow as individuals. It’s a testament to the magic that can be found when we strip away modern conveniences and embrace the great outdoors.
