Camp Vertical at Vertical Hold San Diego is a rock climbing day camp for children ages 8–13. The camp is organized for young climbers who want to build confidence, balance, coordination, and problem-solving skills in a climbing gym setting. The registration system separates campers into age groups, including ages 8–10 and ages 11–13, which helps keep activities matched to the child’s stage.
The camp combines real climbing instruction with non-climbing activities. Campers work on bouldering and top-roping, learn knot tying and belay techniques, practice climbing and fall safety, and build climbing technique and fundamentals. The program also includes games, crafts, scavenger hunts, obstacle courses, crate stacking, and team challenges.
This camp will likely interest kids who enjoy active challenges but may not want a traditional field-sports camp. Climbing asks children to think and move at the same time. They need to plan routes, use balance, trust instructions, and try again when something feels hard. That makes it useful for kids who enjoy physical problem-solving.
The camp is open to both newer and more experienced climbers. Activities are tailored to each child’s age and ability, so campers do not need to approach every wall or activity in the same way.

Vertical Hold San Diego camp is a day camp. Campers attend during the selected camp session and return home afterward. The program takes place in a rock-climbing gym, not at a residential camp property.
Full-day camp runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Half-day camp is also available, with morning camp from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and afternoon camp from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Camp staff open check-in at 8:55 a.m. Campers arriving before that time stay with an adult until check-in begins. Pick-up is handled at the front desk by a parent, guardian, or designated chaperone. After camp ends, Vertical Hold gives families a 10-minute grace period before late pick-up fees begin.
The camp does not include overnight lodging, cabins, dorm rooms, or residential supervision.
Full-day campers bring a sack lunch. All campers should bring snacks and a refillable water bottle. This fits the camp structure, where children spend the day climbing, playing, working through team challenges, and taking breaks between activities.
Half-day campers do not need a full lunch for the shorter session, but snacks and water are still part of the packing list. Climbing can be tiring even when kids are having fun, so easy snacks and hydration help campers stay comfortable through the session.
Safety is built directly into the camp activities. Campers practice climbing and falling safety, knot tying, belay lessons, climbing technique, and fundamentals. They also participate in bouldering and top roping, which gives them different ways to experience climbing inside the gym.
Every person entering the gym needs a current waiver, including non-climbers and children of all ages. Each camper also needs a completed camper profile signed by a legal guardian. The profile includes emergency contacts and approved adults for drop-off, sign-in, pick-up, and sign-out.
Campers are checked in and checked out at the front desk by a parent, guardian, or designated chaperone. This creates a clear handoff at both ends of the camp day.
Clothing rules also support safe movement. Campers should wear long shorts or pants, socks, and active closed-toe shoes secured around the heel. Crocs and sandals are not used for camp.
The camper profile asks families to share allergies, special needs, past major injuries, other notes, emergency contacts, and approved adults for drop-off and pick-up. The form is signed by a parent or legal guardian and can be completed on the first day or filled out at the front desk.
Camp health routines include frequent handwashing and enhanced sanitation practices. Staff sanitizes supplies and facilities throughout the day. Staff are also trained in health procedures and safety protocols.
Any camper showing signs of illness during camp is picked up by a parent or designated chaperone. This gives the camp a simple response path when a child becomes unwell during the day.
Campers should bring a refillable water bottle and snacks. Full-day campers should bring lunch. The active gym setting makes hydration, food, comfortable clothing, and proper shoes important parts of daily readiness.
Camp Vertical combines climbing instruction with camp-style games and team activities. Campers practice bouldering and top-roping while learning safety habits, knot tying, belay concepts, climbing movements, and fall practices. The non-climbing side keeps the day varied with crate stacking, obstacle courses, scavenger hunts, crafts, games, and team challenges. Activities are adjusted by age and ability, so campers can build skills at a pace that fits them.
