LMU Ignite: College Prep Dance Intensive offers an immersive look at collegiate dance training for motivated teen dancers. The atmosphere is professional, structured, and intentionally challenging. Days are built around full studio schedules that mirror the pace and expectations of college dance programs, helping participants understand both the physical and mental demands of advanced training.
The program focuses on technical development, performance readiness, and artistic growth. Campers take multiple technique classes, explore choreography, and work on movement quality, musicality, and versatility. Instruction emphasizes discipline, self-awareness, and the ability to adapt quickly—skills that matter just as much as strong technique in higher education dance settings.
This intensive is designed for rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors with prior dance experience. It is especially valuable for dancers considering applying to college dance programs or those who want a realistic preview of life as a dance major. Living and training alongside peers with similar goals creates a focused, inspiring environment that encourages growth, independence, and confidence both in and out of the studio.

The dance intensive is fully residential. All participants are required to live on campus for the duration of the program, as commuter options are not available. Campers stay in university housing and experience daily life in a college setting, which helps them build independence and routine. Living on campus also makes it easier to manage the demanding training schedule, with quick access to studios, recreation spaces, and common areas for rest and social time. Campus recreation facilities are available to participants, offering spaces to stretch, cross-train, or unwind after a full day of classes.
Housing and meals are included for the full two-week program. Campers receive regular daily meals provided through campus dining services, making it easier to stay energized during long training days. Meal times also serve as natural breaks for rest and social connection with fellow dancers. Families with dietary considerations should plan ahead, as meal options and accommodations follow standard campus dining procedures. Participants may also choose to bring personal snacks to support their individual energy needs during intensive training days.
LMU places strong emphasis on the welfare and safety of minors who participate in on-campus youth programs. Because participants are under 18, additional safeguards are in place to create a supervised and secure environment. These include formal program registration, required training for staff working with minors, and criminal background checks for individuals in supervisory or instructional roles. The university follows established policies designed specifically to protect minors during organized activities on campus. Dedicated risk management procedures help guide youth programs and provide oversight, supporting a structured setting where participants can focus on training while families can feel confident about on-campus supervision.
The program is designed to support the general health and well-being of active teen dancers during an intensive training experience. Participants are expected to arrive in good physical condition and able to take part in daily movement-based classes. Campers should bring any personal medications they require and be comfortable managing routine needs with guidance from on-site staff. Breaks are built into the daily schedule to allow for rest, hydration, and recovery between classes. Families are encouraged to share relevant health information in advance so staff can better support participants throughout the program.
LMU’s summer dance intensives are shaped by long-standing connections with the professional dance community in Los Angeles. Each summer, the university collaborates with established dance organizations to offer high-level training opportunities on campus. These partnerships reflect an ongoing tradition of linking academic dance education with real-world professional pathways. While specific collaborators may vary from year to year, the consistent focus remains on artistic growth, professional development, and exposure to the broader dance field. This connection to the LA dance scene is a defining element of LMU’s summer dance culture.
The activities program combines intensive dance training with creative exploration and exposure to the Los Angeles dance scene. Over two weeks, dancers balance technique classes, composition work, and select off-campus experiences that reflect the scope of college-level dance study.
Mornings focus on technique, building strength, musicality, and performance presence through contemporary, modern, and street-influenced styles. These classes emphasize intentional movement and versatility. Afternoons shift toward creative labs, where dancers develop original movement through composition, improvisation, and collaboration. Guided feedback and reflection help students understand how movement choices communicate ideas.
Beyond campus studios, participants also train at commercial dance studios, working with established Los Angeles dance artists. The program concludes with a final performance sharing, where dancers present short original works created during the intensive.
This intensive is designed for experienced high school dancers who are ready for a demanding schedule. The combination of campus-based training and off-campus studio exposure offers a well-rounded look at both academic and professional dance environments.
