Campers spend much of the day learning and practicing indoor rock climbing at Mesa Rim’s Mission Valley center. The main Camp Mesa Rim program serves ages 7–13, with activities adjusted to each child’s age and climbing experience. Experienced coaches introduce top-rope and bouldering skills, climbing fundamentals, projecting, knot tying, belaying, movement, and falling techniques. First-time climbers can join alongside children who have climbed before, and the program combines instruction with repeated time on the wall.
Climbing is balanced with off-the-wall activities that keep the day varied. Camp programming includes youth yoga, arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, the island swing, crate-tower stacking, and other physical games. The standard full-day schedule runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with about four hours dedicated to climbing. For ages 7 and older, the published ratio is one instructor for every six climbers.
Families provide lunch and snacks, while Mesa Rim supplies the necessary climbing gear, including shoes, harnesses, chalk, belay devices, and yoga mats. Regular drop-off is 8:45–9:00 AM, and pickup is by 3:00 PM unless extended care is purchased. Campers should wear comfortable athletic clothing and socks for rental shoes.
