Ooh La La Dance Academy Camps

Ooh La La Dance Academy Camps

La Jolla, CA, USA

Overview

Ooh La La Dance Academy Camps focus on dance, creative expression, and age-appropriate skill development. The program is divided into three main groups: PreK & TK Camps for ages 3–5, Youth Camps for ages 6–13, and Summer Intensives for ages 13–18 with previous dance experience. This structure gives younger children a playful introduction to movement while allowing experienced dancers to work at a more demanding level.

The preschool program combines dance, acro, and arts and crafts. It uses themed weeks to make activities especially engaging for young children. Youth Camps are geared toward children with little or no more than four years of beginner dance experience. Their program includes acro, hip hop, ballet, and other dance styles.

Older dancers can choose the Summer Intensives, which focus on technique, conditioning, and improvisation. These sessions are for experienced dancers and are particularly suited to competition students who want to push their training further.

The academy teaches a broad range of dance styles, including ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, musical theatre, tap, acro, and stretch and conditioning. Classes are offered for different ages and ability levels, so children can continue developing their skills beyond the camp program.

Why We Love It

  • Creative themed weeks — Dance and activities are built around fun themes that keep the summer program fresh.
  • Different levels of challenge — Children can start with playful beginner activities or move into more demanding dance training.
  • More than one way to move — Ballet, hip hop, acro, contemporary, jazz, and other styles give dancers plenty to explore.

Best For

  • Young dancers ages 3–5 who enjoy music, movement, crafts, and imaginative play.
  • Beginner dancers ages 6–13 who want to explore several dance styles in a relaxed summer setting.

Accommodation and Meals

Accommodation

This is a day camp, so campers return home after their daily program. There is no overnight accommodation or residential camp stay. Preschool camps run for a shorter day, while Youth Camps provide a longer daytime schedule. Summer Intensives are also structured as daytime training rather than an overnight experience.

Safety

The program is held at a dance academy and is organized by age and experience level. Younger children have their own preschool camp format, while Youth Camps and Summer Intensives are separated by age and dance experience. The academy's regular dance curriculum also emphasizes proper technique, body alignment, coordination, and safe execution of acrobatic skills.

For acro training, students build body awareness and strength and learn to perform skills safely with good form. The academy also uses age- and level-appropriate prerequisites for more advanced classes, helping dancers progress gradually rather than jumping into skills beyond their experience.

Camp Traditions

Ooh La La's summer program uses themed camp weeks to give each session its own creative focus. Themes listed for the Youth and preschool programs include productions and pop-culture-inspired concepts such as Moana 2, Frozen, Tangled, Aladdin, Beauty & the Beast, Cinderella, Encanto, K-pop, and Taylor Swift.

The academy also describes itself as a close-knit dance community where children celebrate birthdays, awards, graduations, and other milestones together. Students can showcase their growth through the academy's regular recital program.
