Camera settings, composition, light, color, portraits, landscapes, candid images, and digital editing all come together in a hands-on week built around making photographs rather than simply taking snapshots. Photography Camp is designed for ages 8-14 and combines practical camera work with guided exercises in visual composition, exposure, light and shadow, depth of field, and several photography genres. Campers work with their own digital camera and 16 GB flash drive as they collect images throughout the week.
The curriculum moves from shooting to computer-based photo mastering, with workshops in color and contrast, black-and-white photography, headshots and portraits, still life, landscape, commercial images, candid and live-action work, special effects, photo stories, collage, and portfolio design. Campers select images from their collected work, master them during camp, print them at home, and arrange them into a notebook-style portfolio. The final portfolio is expected to contain about 15 photographs.
At the El Segundo Richmond Street location, camp runs in the Richmond Street School auditorium. Regular camp hours are 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with supervised drop-off before camp and a short supervised pickup window afterward. Enrollment is capped at 12 students per site per session, and the program is presented in PAW's non-competitive, nurturing camp environment.

Each Photography Camp session is one week long and is built around a sequence of practical photography workshops. Campers begin with core camera and image-making skills, including camera settings, visual composition, exposure, light and shadow, depth of field, color and contrast, and black-and-white photography. They then apply those ideas across several genres, including headshots and portraits, still life, landscape, commercial photography, candid images, and live-action work.
The curriculum also includes special effects, photo stories and collage, photo mastering with computer software, and portfolio design. Campers move between taking photographs and reviewing or enhancing their images on a computer. Students are required to bring their own digital camera and a 16 GB flash drive for their work.
Throughout the week, campers collect photographs and choose favorites to master during camp. Those selected images are printed at home and then compiled and arranged as part of the portfolio-design curriculum. PAW says a final portfolio will contain approximately 15 photographs. The site maximum is 12 students per session, and the program is run within the organization's non-competitive, nurturing camp format.

Campers bring their own food and drinks. Families are asked to pack a mid-morning snack, a complete and filling lunch, a beverage, and a bottle of water each day. The camp notes that children have an active day, so families should pack enough food for both snack and lunch rather than relying on one small meal.
Camp facilities do not provide refrigeration for children's lunches. Food that needs to stay cold should be packed in an insulated lunch box with an ice pack. Families can choose foods that do not require refrigeration instead.
PAW uses written authorization procedures for camp departure. Families can submit a pickup authorization for approved relatives, friends, carpool parents, or babysitters. Children are not permitted to leave camp without an adult unless the required walk or bike authorization is on file. Once a child is signed out and released from PAW supervision, the child must leave the campus rather than wait unattended on facility grounds.
PAW also keeps communication between the central office and on-site directors active during camp hours so important camper information can be relayed without pulling teaching staff away from supervision. Teaching staff are required to clear criminal background checks before working with children.
Parents are required to disclose allergies, medications, disabilities, or special needs at enrollment and provide guidance for the camp. In some circumstances, PAW can help administer simple medications with written permission. Families using this arrangement are asked to arrive early on the first day, meet the on-site camp director, review the medication plan, and clearly label the child's medication with the child's name and instructions for use.
PAW says its teachers are professionals working in their respective fields and either hold or are working toward bachelor's or master's degrees. Teachers also have prior experience working with children and must clear a criminal background check before being placed in the classroom. The published teacher-to-student ratio is one adult for every 10 to 12 children. PAW describes its instructors as trained in their arts disciplines and selected for their ability to teach curriculum in an engaging, kind, and entertaining way.
Parents can contact the PAW office during camp hours when they need to relay an important message or reach on-site staff. Camp directors and teachers are required to call the office multiple times each day, allowing information about campers to be passed between the office and the camp location. Parents can also speak with the on-site camp director when they arrive early for camp.
Drop-off with supervised playtime is available from 8:45 AM to 9:00 AM, followed by regular camp hours from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. A supervised pickup window runs until 3:10 PM. Optional Sunrise Student access begins at 8:00 AM, and Extended Play is available at the Richmond Street location from 3:10 PM to 5:00 PM. Families must provide the camper's own digital camera and 16 GB flash drive, plus a snack, lunch, beverage, and water. Written authorization is required when someone other than a parent or guardian will pick up the child or when a child is permitted to walk or bike home.
PAW allows one camp discount, gift certificate, or coupon per enrollment. Published options include early-signup, multi-session, returning-student, sibling, friend, and first-time-camper discounts, with the applicable code entered during registration.
