San Diego Tennis & Racquet Club offers junior tennis training through the Angel Lopez Tennis Academy. The summer program includes full-day training for ages 8–18 and half-day training for ages 5–15. The program is designed for players at different levels, with registration options for beginner, intermediate, and advanced players.
The training environment focuses on tennis development, but the camp's goals are broader than just strokes. Campers work on basic and advanced tennis skills, fitness, concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and involvement in the sport. The club presents tennis as a way to build confidence, social skills, discipline, friendship, and a stronger sense of accomplishment.
The program is led through the Angel Lopez Tennis Academy. Each professional instructor on staff is USPTA certified, and instruction is guided by Angel Lopez, a USPTA Certified Master Professional. The academy describes its training as suitable for beginners moving toward higher-level play, with instruction tailored to each player’s needs and experience.
This camp-style training works best for children and teens who want structured tennis time, not casual drop-in play. Younger campers can choose the half-day format, while older and more committed players may prefer the full-day option.

San Diego Tennis & Racquet Club Junior Summer Tennis Training Program is a day program. Campers attend during their selected training block and return home afterward. No overnight lodging, dorm rooms, cabins, hotel stays, or residential supervision are included.
The full-day summer program runs from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday, for ages 8–18. The half-day program runs from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Monday through Friday, for ages 5–15.
The program takes place in a tennis club environment with extensive tennis facilities. Campers train on courts rather than in a general recreation setting. Families should plan for daily drop-off and pick-up through the club.
The half-day option is better suited for younger players or children who are new to longer tennis sessions. The full-day option gives older campers more training time and a deeper daily tennis routine.
Full-day campers bring lunch from home. Lunch is not provided. Half-day campers should bring a snack for the snack break.
Prepared meals, catered lunch, cafeteria service, daily snack service, refrigeration, microwave access, and special diet support could not be confirmed from the official camp information. Families should pack food that suits a tennis training day and is easy for the camper to manage during breaks.
A water bottle is also a practical item for any tennis program, especially during summer training. The official summer flyer specifically lists lunch for full-day campers and snack for half-day campers, but does not provide a broader food service policy. Families with allergies or dietary needs should confirm handling details before camp begins.
The junior program is described as well-organized, professionally managed, and competently supervised. Training takes place in a structured environment that stresses skill development, fitness, concentration, motivation, self-discipline, fun, excitement, and involvement.
Instruction is led by USPTA-certified tennis professionals under the guidance of Angel Lopez. The academy’s teaching approach is designed to support players from beginner levels through higher-level competition, with instruction tailored to each player’s needs and experience.
The club has tennis facilities built for junior and adult play, including full-size courts, junior courts, ball-machine support, and hitting backboards. Younger players benefit from smaller 36-foot junior courts designed for children 8 and under, with shorter dimensions and modified scoring.
The program’s identity is closely tied to the Angel Lopez Tennis Academy. The academy emphasizes player development first, with winning placed behind long-term growth. Campers are encouraged to build tennis skills while also becoming more confident, disciplined, and successful young people.
A key tradition is structured progression. Players are not simply sent onto a court to rally. They are placed into a training environment where beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels are recognized during registration. That helps the academy understand each child’s starting point and adjust instruction accordingly.
The youngest players have a separate pathway through smaller courts and modified equipment. The goal is to get children playing quickly, rallying sooner, and enjoying the game before tennis feels too big or too technical.
The overall camp culture is classic tennis-development work: show up, train, improve fitness, build concentration, develop skills, and enjoy the game with other young players.
The junior summer program centers on tennis training and player development. Campers work on basic and advanced tennis skills, with the program also emphasizing fitness, concentration, motivation, self-discipline, fun, and involvement in the sport.
The academy can support a wide range of levels. Beginners can work on early technique and court confidence, while more advanced players can train toward higher-level competition. The registration form includes beginner, intermediate, and advanced-level choices, helping to place campers in an appropriate training context.
Younger children benefit from scaled tennis. The 8-and-under program uses smaller courts, specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions, and modified scoring. That makes it easier for children to rally, play points, and enjoy the game quickly.
Emergency contact number, age, date of birth, and level of play are requested on the form.
Level choices include beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
Cancellations must be made 48 hours before the first day to avoid a 50% cancellation fee.
