School of Rock Otay Ranch Summer Camps are week-long music camps built around live performance. Instead of learning music only through exercises, campers rehearse songs in a band setting and work toward a Friday recital for families. The 2026 summer lineup includes beginner-friendly and intermediate camp themes, with songs and styles drawn from classic rock, punk, grunge, funk, R&B, and metal.
Most listed camps serve ages 8–18 and are open to students with no experience or some experience. The Metallica Camp is listed for students with some experience and is described as an intermediate-to-advanced option. Rock 101 is the clearest beginner pathway, with instrument exploration through musical games and activities.
The camp supports several instruments and performance roles, including guitar, bass, drums, keys, vocals, and other instruments. Each week runs from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM and includes three rehearsals per day. The format gives campers a concentrated music experience that feels more like being in a working band than attending a standard music class.
The best match is a child or teen who enjoys music, can handle group rehearsal, and wants the motivation of a real performance goal.

School of Rock Otay Ranch Summer Camps are day camps. Campers attend during the scheduled camp day and return home afterward. No overnight lodging, cabins, dorm rooms, hotel stays, or residential supervision are included.
Each listed summer camp runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The daily schedule is longer than a short lesson but shorter than a full childcare-style camp day. That makes the program focused: campers come to rehearse, learn songs, build band skills, and prepare for the final performance.
The setting is a music school environment with rehearsal and lesson spaces. Campers work with band instruments, instructors, and other young musicians. Families should plan for daily drop-off and pick-up. A Friday family recital is part of each listed camp, with the final performance scheduled at 1:00 PM on the fifth day.
Campers should bring lunch. Lunch can be placed in the school’s refrigerator.
No prepared meal service, catered lunch, cafeteria option, snack program, or special diet support is listed for the camp. Families should pack a lunch that works well for a music-school day and does not require complicated preparation.
The main tradition at the School of Rock is performance. Campers are not working toward a worksheet, badge, or quiet classroom presentation. They rehearse as musicians, learn songs in a group, and finish the week by taking the stage for families.
Each camp theme gives the week a different sound. Rock 101 introduces new musicians to band basics. Nirvana brings a grunge sound. Green Day adds punk energy. Funk and R&B focus on groove and danceable music. AC/DC brings heavy rock. Metallica raises the difficulty for campers ready for a stronger challenge.
The daily rehearsal rhythm is another key part of the camp identity. Campers rehearse three times a day for five days, creating an intense but exciting week of music-making. The final recital gives the week a clear finish and gives campers a reason to keep practicing even when a part feels hard.
School of Rock Otay Ranch Summer Camps are centered on band rehearsal and performance. Campers spend the week learning songs connected to the selected camp theme, then bring those songs together for a final family recital. The structure gives young musicians a clear purpose: learn the parts, rehearse with others, and perform.
Rock 101 Camp gives beginners a softer entry point, using musical games and activities to help students explore instruments. Nirvana Camp focuses on songs from the Seattle grunge movement, including well-known tracks such as “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “Come As You Are.” Green Day Camp brings punk-trio energy, while Funk and R&B Camp centers on groove-based music from the 1960s and 1970s.
AC/DC Camp offers campers a heavy-rock week that culminates in a Friday performance. Metallica Camp is more demanding and is listed for students with some experience. It gives intermediate and advanced campers a chance to learn, jam, and perform harder rock material.
