Acting, singing, movement, and creative storytelling bring young performers into the world of theatre. The Old Globe Summer Programs for Youth combines two distinct ways to explore the stage in San Diego: Camp Studio for elementary and middle school students, and the Pam Farr Summer Shakespeare Studio for high-school-aged teens. Both place creative expression at the center of the experience, with a student showcase giving participants a chance to share their work.
In Camp Studio, students in grades 2–9 experiment with storytelling through acting, dance, singing, and crafts. Separate elementary and middle school groups take part in a two-week program. The mix of performance and hands-on art gives children several ways to explore stories and express their ideas. This program suits students drawn to stage activities as well as those who enjoy making things.
Teens in the four-week Shakespeare studio take a more intensive approach to performance. They explore Shakespeare’s plays through classical acting, movement, music, writing, voice and speech, and stage combat. Scenes, monologues, and original work connect the text with their own creative choices. Regular master classes introduce participants to Globe artists and staff. Based in Hattox Hall at The Old Globe, this program is a fit for curious young performers interested in Shakespeare and a focused theatre curriculum.

Choose between a broad creative camp and a more intensive Shakespeare studio. Camp Studio organizes students into an elementary group for grades 2–5 and a middle school group for grades 6–9. Each group follows a two-week weekday program with acting, dance, singing, and craft classes. Students experiment with different ways to tell stories and practice expressing their creativity. Each session ends with a showcase.
The Pam Farr Summer Shakespeare Studio brings high-school-aged teens together for four weeks of theatre study. Its curriculum combines acting, movement, music, and writing with training in voice and speech, stage combat, and Shakespeare’s text. Students study classical acting while developing scenes and monologues. They also create original work, using Shakespeare’s writing as a starting point for their own performance choices.
Regular master classes connect the teen group with Globe artists and staff. The mix of text study and performance gives participants several ways to engage with Shakespeare, from interpreting a passage to bringing it to life through voice and movement. A final student showcase closes the program. The two studios serve different school stages and have their own session structures, so families can choose the program that matches their student’s interests and grade level.
