Fremont, CA, USA
Young climbers work in leveled teams that combine regular practice with coaching in technique, discipline, and progression. The program serves ages 7 to 17 and includes Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced teams. Beginner groups are split by age, while the higher levels are intended for climbers with more experience, commitment, and interest in competition. Practices take place at The Peak of Fremont, an indoor climbing gym inside Mission Peak Sportsplex in Fremont, with top-rope and lead routes, bouldering terrain, auto belays, fitness equipment, and an angle-adjustable training board.
The program is structured around skill growth over time rather than a one-time recreational visit. Beginner climbers build foundational skills and a positive mindset alongside peers. Intermediate climbers work toward stronger technique and, at the higher intermediate level, local and regional competition. Advanced team members focus on advanced technique, strength training, and goal-driven performance. The youth program maintains a strict coach-to-climber ratio to support coaching quality, though no numeric ratio is published.
Families considering the Beginner Team can use the waitlist form for future openings. The form lists 2026 quarter windows as rough estimates and offers separate Tuesday and Thursday Beginner Team practice options.

The youth program is organized as a progression of climbing teams. Beginner Team 1 serves climbers ages 11 and older, while Beginner Team 2 serves ages 7 to 10. Both beginner groups meet once per week for two hours. The program emphasizes collaboration, encouragement, skill development, and a positive mindset for newcomers and returning climbers.
Intermediate Team 1 is designed for climbers with some experience who are ready to develop their skills and move toward competition. It meets twice weekly. Intermediate Team 2 is the step before the Advanced Team and is coached by Advanced Team coaches; participants are expected to compete locally and regionally. Selection for intermediate teams is based on commitment, attitude, skill level, potential, and coachability, and the intermediate level is invitation only.
The Advanced Team is for experienced, highly motivated climbers with a serious interest in competition. Training focuses on advanced technique, strength work, and goal-driven performance. The Beginner Team waitlist lists future 2026 quarter windows as rough estimates and lets families choose between the two published Beginner practice groups.

The Peak of Fremont requires every participant and observer to complete a liability waiver before using the facility. A parent or legal guardian must complete a minor’s waiver, and the facility publishes additional identification requirements when the guardian is not present. Facility rules require climbers under 18 to be actively supervised by an adult age 21 or older. The gym also publishes specific rules for auto belays, top roping, lead climbing, and bouldering, including equipment checks, belay testing, fall-zone awareness, and restrictions on unsafe behavior. Closed-toe shoes are required for climbing and fitness equipment, and climbing shoes are required in the top-rope and bouldering areas.
Climbers work with dedicated coaches on technique, respect, and discipline, and the program maintains a strict coach-to-climber ratio to support coaching quality and personalized attention. The staff roster includes multiple Youth Climbing Coach roles. Intermediate Team 2 is coached by Advanced Team coaches, while advanced climbers receive training focused on technique, strength, and performance goals. Team selection emphasizes commitment, attitude, skill level, and coachability.
Families interested in Beginner Team openings can use the Beginner Team waitlist form. It collects a parent email address and phone number, asks for a preferred time for contact, and lets families choose a Beginner Team practice option and a preferred 2026 quarter window. The main contact page also provides a web contact form and the gym’s public phone number.
Participants and observers must complete the gym’s liability waiver before entering the climbing facility.
