US Sports Camps: Contact Football at San Diego State University is a Nike Contact Football Camp for boys ages 8 to 18. The program is designed for athletes who want to improve their football skills in a structured, coached environment. It welcomes different experience levels, from newer players learning the game to more seasoned athletes who want extra reps before the season.
The camp focuses on fundamentals first. Players work on position-specific skills such as passing, receiving, running, blocking, tackling, and defensive technique. Contact is introduced gradually through controlled drills before progressing toward full pads later in camp. That step-by-step format is important for a contact football setting because players need to learn proper body position, safe technique, and game awareness before live competition.
The camp is directed by Jonas Jackson and supported by a football coaching staff. Training includes offensive and defensive development, speed, strength, agility work, contact drills, and scrimmages. Campers are grouped by age, weight, and ability, which helps keep instruction more appropriate for each player.
This camp is best for boys who love football, want a more intensive training experience, and are ready for a physically active camp. It may be especially appealing to players who want both skill development and the feel of a college-campus football environment.

US Sports Camps: Contact Football offers both day and overnight camp options. Day campers attend the scheduled football sessions, meals, and activities, then leave at the listed dismissal times. Overnight campers stay on campus in dorm housing and take part in the full residential camp experience.
The listed dorm is Huaxyacac. Rooms are assigned with two campers per room. Room assignments are made by age and roommate requests when requests are submitted at least 14 days before camp starts. Campers who do not request a roommate are placed with someone of a similar age.
Linens are not included. Overnight campers need to bring twin bedding or a sleeping bag, a pillow, a pillowcase, a towel, toiletries, and other personal items. The dorms have air conditioning. Overnight campers also have access to evening activities, including bowling night, movie and game night, and swimming at the Aztec Aquaplex.
Meals are included differently for day and overnight campers. On the first day, all campers receive dinner. On the second and third days, overnight campers receive breakfast, lunch, and dinner, while day campers receive lunch. On the final day, overnight campers receive breakfast, and camp ends after graduation with no lunch served.
Meals are served at the University Towers Kitchen. Day campers should plan around the schedule carefully because lunch is included only on the middle camp days. No lunch is provided on the final day. Families with day campers should also note the long first day, since the day-camper schedule runs into the evening and dinner is included.
Safety is a major part of the camp structure because this is a contact football program. Contact is not introduced all at once. Players begin with controlled, gradual drills before moving toward full pads later in camp. The program also includes discussions on proper technique and concussion safety.
Campers are grouped by age, weight, and ability at the director’s discretion. This grouping helps match players with others at a more appropriate size and skill level. The camp also uses a 1:10 staff-to-camper ratio, which gives coaches more room to supervise drills and correct technique.
Campers are supervised by staff during camp hours. Overnight campers are supervised in the dorms, which provide 24/7 supervision by trained staff and counselors. Campers are also supervised during activities, meals, and free time. Indoor facilities are available if the weather affects outdoor field use. Swimming at the Aztec Aquaplex is for overnight campers only, with lifeguards on duty.
Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In an emergency, campers are transported to the nearest hospital. This is especially relevant for a contact football program, where players work in pads, practice technique, and participate in physical drills.
Campers should bring any necessary medications. Sunscreen and a water bottle are also listed as items to bring, which matters for outdoor practices. Overnight campers should pack personal toiletries, towels, bedding, and enough athletic clothing for multiple daily sessions.
Required forms and pre-camp information are completed through the pre-camp checklist. Families should use that process to submit health forms, review camp details, and pay any remaining balance before camp begins. Registered campers are notified by email if important changes are made before the start of camp.
This camp includes several shared moments that give the week a more complete camp feel. The final day includes scrimmages and competition in front of parents, followed by a closing ceremony. Parents are invited to attend graduation before check-out. For many players, this final session is the payoff: they get to show what they practiced during the week.
Overnight campers also get extra evening activities. Bowling night takes place at Aztec Bowling Lanes and includes pizza, video games, table tennis, and pool tables. Movie and game night gives campers a more relaxed break from the field. Swimming at the Aztec Aquaplex adds another campus-style activity outside football training.
The football traditions are simple and direct: practice hard, learn proper technique, compete, and finish with a team-style closing experience. Campers also receive a Nike Football Camp T-shirt, with potential prizes included.
The activities program is centered on contact football skill development. Players train on both sides of the ball, with instruction in offensive and defensive fundamentals. Position-focused work helps athletes practice passing, receiving, running, blocking, tackling, and defensive technique. Contact is added in stages, beginning with controlled drills and building toward more complete padded work.
The camp also includes speed, strength, and agility training. These sessions help players move better, react faster, and build football-specific athletic habits. Scrimmages and competition give campers a chance to apply what they learn in a more realistic setting. The final day includes scrimmages and competition in front of parents, followed by a closing ceremony.
