Camp Vertical at Vertical Hold Poway is a rock climbing day camp for children ages 8–13. The program is designed for climbers who want to build confidence, balance, coordination, problem-solving skills, and friendships through a mix of climbing and camp-style activities. Experienced 7-year-old climbers may be considered by contacting the camp team.
The camp works well for kids who enjoy active challenges but do not necessarily want a traditional sports camp. Climbing asks children to think through each move, test their balance, try new routes, and keep going when a climb feels tricky. That makes the experience physical and mental at the same time.
Campers practice bouldering and top roping, learn knot tying and belay concepts, and build climbing fundamentals. They also learn safe falling habits and basic climbing technique. The program is adjusted by age and ability, so campers can work at a level that fits their experience.
The non-climbing side adds variety. Campers take part in team challenges, crafts, games, scavenger hunts, obstacle courses, crate stacking, and shirt tie-dyeing for full-day campers. The result is a camp that feels adventurous, social, and structured without being overly formal.

Camp Vertical Poway is a day camp. Campers attend during the selected session and return home afterward. The program takes place at Vertical Hold’s Poway climbing gym, where the camp day is centered on indoor climbing, games, crafts, and group activities.
Families can choose a full-day or half-day format. Full-day camp runs Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Half-day options include a morning session from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and an afternoon session from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Check-in opens at 8:55 a.m. Campers arriving earlier remain with an adult until camp staff begin check-in. Pick-up takes place at the front desk with a parent, guardian, or designated chaperone.
This is a local daily program rather than a residential camp. Families should plan daily transportation, proper clothing, snacks, water, and lunch for full-day participation.
Campers bring food and drinks from home. The camp packing list includes a sack lunch, water, and snacks for two snack time sessions. Full-day campers should come with enough food for a full active day.
The camp day includes climbing, movement, team activities, and games, so hydration matters. A refillable water bottle is a practical choice because campers may move between climbing, breaks, crafts, and other activities throughout the day.
Camp Vertical includes safety instruction as part of the program. Campers learn climbing and falling safety practices, knot tying, belay concepts, climbing technique, and climbing fundamentals. These skills help children understand how to move on the wall, manage fear, and participate responsibly.
Every camper needs an online waiver. Minors must have a waiver signed by a parent or legal guardian. Campers are checked in and checked out at the front desk by a parent, guardian, or designated chaperone.
The camp uses age- and ability-appropriate activities. Children are guided through climbing and non-climbing activities in ways that match their stage. Groups also work through team challenges, which helps staff keep the day organized.
Clothing rules support safe movement. Campers should wear long shorts or pants, socks, and active closed-toe shoes. Skirts or dresses require shorts underneath. Sandals are not used for camp activities.
Camp Vertical Poway combines climbing skill-building with classic camp activities. Campers practice bouldering and top roping while learning how to move, balance, tie knots, understand belay basics, and fall more safely. Off the wall, they work through activities that build teamwork, creativity, coordination, and confidence. The camp is flexible enough for different ability levels, so kids can challenge themselves without feeling pushed into the same pace as everyone else.
Campers should bring a sack lunch, water, and snacks.
Long shorts or pants, socks, and active closed-toe shoes are required.
Personal valuables, electronic devices, toys, and pets stay at home.
