The four-star Novotel Berlin Mitte is part of the Novotel chain. It is ideally located for educational trips with children — on the Museum Island in Berlin's Mitte district.
The rooms, which are regularly renovated, are only available in two categories, standard and superior, but have everything you need for a family stay. Plenty of daylight and a wonderful view from the floor-to-ceiling windows, a bathroom with a separate bathtub and shower on a flexible hose, a sofa bed as a sleeping area, connecting rooms, the possibility of taking a cot and a pram — these are the little details that make the hotel a pleasant place to stay.
The soundproofing of the windows prevents street noise from disturbing a child's sleep. The supermarket is just around the corner and a tea and coffee service is available for in-room dining. A family room is available for two adults with two children under 16.
For early risers, Novotel Berlin Mitte offers a complimentary morning coffee with yoghurt and snacks. For everyone else, breakfast is served at Le Jardin and children eating with their parents are free. In the evening, the chef offers a children's menu for the younger guests.
The hotel also has bicycles for hire, including some with child seats. That's handy, because if you're staying on Museum Island, you wouldn't want to start anywhere else in Berlin. And it's much easier to see the whole island on a bike than on foot or by public transport.
The other attractions — Berlin Cathedral, the Television Tower, the Oceanarium, Alexanderplatz and Potsdamplatz — are all within easy walking distance. And in the evening, while parents relax in the lounge bar after a busy day, children can play their favourite games in the video arcade and playground.
