Long Beach Ballet Summer Camp is a comprehensive dance program designed for children and teens at different stages of their ballet journey. Organized by Long Beach Ballet, the program combines classical ballet training with complementary dance styles and creative activities, all taught in a supportive, structured setting.
The atmosphere balances discipline with encouragement. Younger students are introduced to dance through a mix of ballet basics, creative movement, and fun cross-training styles, helping them develop coordination, musicality, and a love for movement. As dancers grow older, training becomes more focused and technical, with increased attention to alignment, strength, artistry, and performance readiness.
The program is designed to meet dancers where they are. Progression is not tied strictly to age, but to individual development. Each level follows a clear syllabus that builds both physical ability and mental focus. Some students may spend more time mastering a level, while others may advance more quickly when ready. This individualized approach helps dancers build strong foundations and reach their personal potential.
For advanced students, a longer summer intensive option is available, offering a more demanding training schedule and additional performance and enrichment opportunities. Overall, the camp is well suited for children and teens who enjoy structured classes, consistent feedback, and a clear sense of growth throughout the summer.

The main summer program operates as a day camp held at the Long Beach Ballet school. Students attend classes during the day and return home in the afternoon. Training takes place across four professional studios equipped with sprung dance floors, mirrors, pianos, sound systems, and climate control, creating a safe and comfortable learning environment. The school also features an on-site dancewear boutique and a spacious lounge area where parents can wait or meet.
For older, more advanced dancers, Long Beach Ballet also offers a five-week summer intensive that includes international travel and hotel accommodation. This option is designed for students ready for an immersive experience beyond the studio, combining high-level training with cultural exposure.
For students participating in the international summer intensive, meals are included as part of the program while traveling and staying abroad. This allows dancers to focus fully on training and activities without needing to arrange daily meals during the trip.
Student safety is supported through a structured studio environment designed specifically for dance training. Classes take place in professionally equipped spaces that help reduce injury risk and support proper technique.
Dancers are supervised throughout the day by instructors and staff who guide transitions between classes and activities. Clear routines and expectations help create an organized, respectful atmosphere where students can focus on learning and movement with confidence.
The program is guided by attentive instructors who take a thoughtful, student-centered approach to training. Teachers watch closely for signs of fatigue and encourage appropriate pacing, rest, and hydration throughout the day.
Students are supported in developing body awareness and healthy habits, including proper warm-up, stretching, and recovery. While dancers are expected to understand their own basic health needs, staff are prepared to assist with minor issues and provide basic first aid if needed.
Long Beach Ballet Summer Camp is grounded in the long-standing traditions of classical ballet, passed down through experienced teachers and mentors. Instruction reflects respect for technique, musicality, and artistry, helping students understand ballet as both a discipline and an expressive art form.
A key tradition is individualized progression. Each dancer is evaluated as an individual, with careful attention to physical and mental development rather than age alone. Levels are designed to challenge students appropriately, allowing them to grow steadily and confidently, sometimes moving faster or slower depending on readiness.
The program also emphasizes continuity and dedication. By returning each summer, many dancers build on past training, deepen their skills, and strengthen their connection to the ballet community.
The activities program is tailored by age and experience, allowing each dancer to train at the right level while enjoying a varied and engaging day.
Younger students explore dance through a mix of ballet and complementary styles, along with creative activities and outdoor breaks. Junior-level dancers begin to focus more on technique while still experiencing variety and expressive movement. Advanced dancers follow a demanding schedule centered on daily ballet training and conditioning, preparing them for higher-level study and performance.
For students enrolled in the extended summer intensive, the experience also includes special events and excursions that add memorable moments beyond the studio.
Long Beach Ballet Summer Camp offers a thoughtful balance of tradition, structure, and individual growth. With options ranging from introductory day programs to advanced intensives, it supports dancers at many stages while emphasizing careful training, artistic development, and a supportive studio culture.
