Redondo Beach, CA, USA
Campers step in front of and behind the camera as they build a short acting reel that shows different sides of their performance skills. Designed for ages 9–14, Actor’s Sizzle Reel Camp combines acting practice with hands-on filmmaking. Campers work with dramatic, comedic, action, commercial, theatrical, and voiceover material while exploring characters, expressions, speech, and delivery. The focus is not just on performing a scene, but on learning how a collection of short clips can present an actor’s range.
Across the one-week program, campers take part in workshops covering acting technique, speech training, creative writing and scripting, storyboarding, film-crew roles, on-camera acting, editing, and mastering. They learn the craft of directing, filming, acting in, and editing their own reels while collaborating with other campers. Each child’s finished reel is assembled from selected performances, and campers receive a copy on a flash drive to take home.
The Redondo Beach program runs as a day camp with regular camp hours from morning through mid-afternoon. PAW describes its broader arts programs as safe and non-competitive, with instructors who have experience working with children and who complete criminal background checks. This format can suit young performers who want to practice acting for the camera while also learning how scenes are planned, recorded, and shaped in the editing process.

The week is organized around a series of acting and filmmaking workshops that help campers create material for a personal Sizzle Reel. Acting work covers commercial, film, television, and theatrical technique, while speech training develops diction, projection, accents, and dialects. Campers also explore creative writing and scripting so they can understand how a scene begins on the page before it moves to the camera.
Behind the camera, campers learn storyboarding, film-crew roles, collaboration, directing, filming, editing, and mastering. On-camera practice gives them repeated opportunities to work with different roles and genres, including serious and funny monologues, newscasting, theatrical performance, action, commercial material, and voiceover. The program emphasizes both performance and the production process rather than treating filming as a simple recording of a finished scene.
By the end of the one-week session, each camper’s selected clips are compiled into an edited Sizzle Reel designed to show different performances and aspects of the actor’s range. Each camper receives a copy of the finished reel on a flash drive. PAW also provides Actor’s Sizzle Reel campers with a composition book to bring back each day, supporting the writing and planning work used during the program.

Campers bring their own food and drinks each day. PAW asks families to pack a mid-morning snack, a complete lunch, a beverage, and a bottle of water. The program notes that campers can be active during the day, so families should pack enough food for both snack and lunch rather than relying on one small meal.
The camp facilities do not provide refrigeration for children’s lunches. Food should therefore be safe without refrigeration, or families can use an insulated lunch box with an ice pack for items that need to stay cold. No camp-provided meal service is described for this program.
PAW requires its teaching staff to complete criminal background checks before working with campers, and instructors are described as having prior experience working with children. The published teacher-to-student ratio is one adult for every 10 to 12 children, supporting opportunities for individual attention.
For dismissal, children must be signed out, and families need additional authorization when someone other than a parent or guardian will pick up a camper or when a child is permitted to walk to or from camp. At Redondo Beach, the site has a courtesy pickup window after regular camp hours and closes at 3:20 PM. The FAQ also gives clothing and footwear guidance intended to reduce avoidable safety issues during camp activities.
Families are asked to disclose allergies, medications, disabilities, or special needs by email at enrollment and provide guidance for the camp. In some circumstances, PAW can assist with simple medications when written permission has been arranged in advance. Families should arrive early on the first day to review medication needs with the on-site camp director.
Any medication PAW has agreed to assist with should be clearly labeled with the child’s name and instructions for use. Medications are kept with the on-site director for safekeeping. The organization may require additional letters, releases, or other documentation for some medical or support needs.
PAW describes its teachers as professionals working in their respective fields who have, or are working toward, bachelor’s or master’s degrees and who have prior experience working with children. Teaching staff must also clear a criminal background check before being placed in the classroom. The published teacher-to-student ratio is one adult for every 10 to 12 children. PAW says its instructors combine their arts training with the organization’s curriculum and are expected to teach in an engaging, kind, and child-friendly way.
PAW posts free camp photos and video reels on its Facebook page for families and friends to enjoy and download. Families can use the organization’s general contact form, phone, or email for camp and enrollment questions, with weekday office hours published for the main office. The FAQ also directs parents to communicate medical, allergy, and special-needs information during enrollment so the camp can prepare before the session begins.
Redondo Beach drop-off and supervised playtime run from 8:45 AM to 9:00 AM, with regular camp from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and a courtesy pickup window until 3:10 PM. This location does not offer Extended Play and closes at 3:20 PM. Families should pack a snack, full lunch, beverage, and water each day. Actor’s Sizzle Reel campers should also bring the composition book PAW provides. Pickup authorization is required when someone other than a parent or guardian may collect the child.
PAW lists standard one-week Actor’s Sizzle Reel tuition at $595 before discounts. Families may apply one camp discount, gift certificate, or coupon per enrollment; optional early-care and merchandise charges are separate.
