Young guitarists spend a focused week learning how to make music on the acoustic guitar, from first chords and tabs to picking, strumming, rhythm, lead playing and music theory. The program is open to ages 8–14 and is designed for a wide range of experience, including beginners and students who already play. Campers explore rock, pop, classical, country and blues while developing technique, listening skills and a stronger understanding of how songs work.
The week also gives campers room to create. Song interpretation, ear training and songwriting are part of the curriculum, and students can work toward writing an original song. Performance is built into the experience: guitar students work alongside Performing Arts Workshops’ theater campers and have an opportunity to showcase what they have learned before a live audience. Campers must bring their own acoustic guitar each day.
At the Redondo Beach location, Guitar Studio runs as a one-week day program in the auditorium at Temple Menorah. The regular day is 9:00 AM–3:00 PM, with supervised drop-off from 8:45 AM and a short pickup window after camp. The program combines structured music instruction with shared camp periods such as snack, lunch and play.

Guitar Studio is a one-week music intensive built around practical acoustic-guitar skills. Campers work on chords, tabs, picking, strumming, rhythm and lead guitar while learning the language of the instrument through guitar terminology, music theory and appreciation. The curriculum also includes song interpretation and ear training throughout the week so students can connect technique with the music they hear and play.
The repertoire spans rock, pop, classical, country and blues. Campers can enter as beginners or with prior experience, and the program is presented as suitable through advanced levels. Songwriting adds a creative track to the week, giving young musicians a chance to develop and perform original material as well as existing pieces.
Performance is part of the program rather than a separate add-on. Guitar campers work in concert with the organization’s theater program and can showcase the skills they have practiced before a live audience. At Redondo Beach, the regular camp day runs from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Families should plan for campers to bring their own acoustic guitar every day, along with their snack and lunch.
Families should pack a mid-morning snack, a complete lunch, a beverage and a bottle of water for each camper. The camp facilities do not provide refrigeration for children’s lunches, so food should either be safe without refrigeration or packed in an insulated lunch box with an ice pack. PAW notes that the camp day is active and recommends packing enough food for both snack and lunch periods.
Every camper must be signed in each morning and signed out each afternoon by the person dropping off or picking up. PAW requires additional authorization when someone other than a parent or guardian will pick up a child, or when a child is permitted to walk or bike home. The organization also asks families to follow camp clothing and footwear rules so children can move safely during activities.
Teaching staff are screened before working with campers and must clear a criminal background check. PAW also maintains office-to-site communication procedures intended to keep important camper information moving between parents, directors and teachers without pulling teaching staff away from supervision.
Parents are asked to disclose allergies, medications, disabilities or special needs by email at enrollment and provide guidance about the child’s needs. In some circumstances, PAW can assist with simple medications when written permission has been provided. Families using this arrangement are asked to arrive early on the first day, review the medication with the on-site camp director, and clearly label the child’s name and instructions.
Medications that PAW has agreed to help with are kept by the on-site director for safekeeping. Families should discuss any relevant health information with the director at the start of the session.
PAW says its teachers are professionals in their respective fields, have or are working toward bachelor’s or master’s degrees, and have prior experience working with children. Teachers are screened and must clear a criminal background check before placement. The published teacher-to-student ratio is one adult for every 10 to 12 children. Instructors are expected to combine arts expertise with an engaging, kind teaching approach.
Parents can contact the PAW office when they need to relay an important message during camp. On-site directors and teachers are required to call the office multiple times each day, creating a central channel for information between families and camp staff. PAW also describes its camps as a cell-free zone for campers, with phones kept in backpacks except for emergencies.
Redondo Beach campers may arrive for supervised drop-off from 8:45 AM, with the regular camp day beginning at 9:00 AM and ending at 3:00 PM. The standard pickup window runs to 3:10 PM, and this site does not offer Extended Play. Sunrise Student early drop-off is available from 8:00 AM for an added fee. Guitar campers must bring their own acoustic guitar every day. Families should also send a snack, full lunch, beverage and water, and complete any required pickup or walking authorizations before camp.
Standard one-week Guitar Camp tuition is $595 before optional discounts. PAW allows one camp discount, gift certificate or coupon per enrollment.
