The Writers Room – West LA is a focused creative writing camp designed for young storytellers who want to explore screenwriting in a professional-style environment. Modeled after real television writers’ rooms, the camp teaches kids how ideas move from concept to script.
Campers work together to brainstorm story concepts, develop characters, outline plots, and write scenes. The atmosphere is collaborative and supportive. Everyone contributes. No one works in isolation. Kids learn that strong stories come from teamwork, revision, and bold ideas.
This program is best suited for elementary and middle school students who enjoy writing, acting, filmmaking, or creative thinking. It’s especially appealing to kids who love movies and TV shows and want to understand how scripts are built. Even reluctant writers often engage quickly because the format feels interactive and fast-paced.
The camp emphasizes story structure, dialogue, pacing, and character development. Instructors guide campers step by step, helping them transform rough ideas into polished scenes. By the end of the session, campers leave with a deeper understanding of storytelling — and the confidence to keep creating.

One of the defining traditions of The Writers Room is the “pitch session.” Campers present their story ideas to the group, much like professional writers pitching to producers. This experience builds confidence and teaches kids how to communicate creative concepts clearly.
Collaboration is another core tradition. Writers work together to shape story arcs, refine dialogue, and solve plot challenges. The process mirrors real industry teamwork, giving campers insight into how television and film projects are developed.
The camp also celebrates the final script. Whether through a table read or group presentation, campers get to see their hard work shared aloud. Hearing their words performed is often a highlight of the experience.
These traditions create a sense of accomplishment and ownership that extends beyond the classroom.
The Writers Room program introduces campers to the fundamentals of screenwriting in an engaging, hands-on format. Each session begins with brainstorming and idea development. Campers learn how to shape raw ideas into structured story concepts.
Instructors guide them through character development, plot outlines, and scene construction. Kids practice writing dialogue that sounds natural and moves the story forward. Lessons are interactive, with group discussion and collaborative editing built into the process.
The camp emphasizes revision. Campers learn that strong writing improves through feedback. They practice listening to suggestions and refining their scripts.
By the end of the session, campers complete original scripted material. Many programs conclude with a group table read or presentation, allowing writers to hear their work performed aloud.
This is not a lecture-style class. It’s a working writers’ room, scaled for young creatives.
