Learning to stop on the ice, control a puck, or perform a skating routine gives each camper a different starting point at UTC Ice Camps. Four tracks bring together beginner skating, introductory hockey, Piranhas hockey, and figure skating training at UTC Ice Sports Center in the Westfield UTC shopping center. Children ages 5–13 can explore skating and hockey, while the figure skating track groups participants by skating tests and competition level.
Beginner Blades focuses on balance, coordination, and basic skating skills through instruction, games, and off-ice activities. Beginner Hockey introduces skating, puck handling, shooting, and game strategy, with equipment provided for that program. Piranhas combines hockey drills and scrimmages with training away from the ice. Figure skaters work on technique and performance through group classes, freestyle practice, choreography, and showcases. Strength, agility, stretching, and other off-ice work support their training.
The day format pairs time on the rink with breaks and activities away from it. Beginners have a route into a new sport, while skaters developing existing skills can choose a track with more focused practice. Figure skating groups range from Pre-Freeskate through higher competitive levels, so placement reflects each participant’s progress. The mix of guided instruction and practice gives families several ways to match the camp experience to a child’s interests.

A camper’s interests and skating experience guide the choice of track. Beginner Blades introduces foundational skating skills with lessons, games, and off-ice activities. Beginner Hockey adds puck handling, shooting, and game strategy to skating practice. Its curriculum includes daily ice training, conditioning, and classroom work. The Piranhas track uses drills, scrimmages, and off-ice training to develop hockey skills and teamwork.
Figure skating training has a separate level structure. Bronze covers Pre-Freeskate through Freeskate 3, while Silver spans Freeskate 4–6 through Pre-Preliminary Excel. Gold and Platinum serve higher test and competition levels. Coaches and the skating director can adjust groups according to attendance. Daily practice includes two one-hour freestyle periods and two on-ice group classes. Spin technique, choreography, and competition simulations connect technical work with performance. Off-ice classes address strength, agility, balance, coordination, and flexibility.
Beginner skating and hockey programs run Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Hockey days move from morning ice practice to off-ice work, a lunch and movie break, afternoon practice, and free skating. Figure skating groups follow their own daily hours. Weekly showcases give those skaters a chance to perform, and optional private lessons can add individual coaching during freestyle practice.
Beginner Blades and Beginner Hockey run Monday–Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Hockey days follow this sequence:
Figure skating groups follow separate morning schedules. Platinum/Gold starts at 7:00 AM, and Silver/Bronze starts at 8:00 AM. Dismissal depends on the training week and weekday. Detailed class schedules are sent to registered families closer to camp.
Camp days include a lunch break between activities. Beginner Hockey and Piranhas place lunch and a movie between morning training and afternoon time on the ice.
Beginner Hockey includes supervised activities and breaks during the camp day. A waiver is required for ice skating, and participants must follow facility rules and safety guidelines. Failure to follow those rules can lead to removal from a program without a refund.
Skating instructors guide campers through technique and practice. Beginner Hockey coaches teach skating, puck handling, shooting, and game strategy through a structured curriculum. In figure skating training, certified coaches lead group instruction and support individual progress. Coaches and the skating director organize participants by competition experience, tests passed, and Learn to Skate USA level, with adjustments based on attendance. Figure skating classes combine technical work, performance practice, and off-ice training. Optional private lessons provide additional individual coaching during freestyle periods.
Registered families receive the detailed daily class schedule closer to camp. For Beginner Blades, parents can join their camper on the ice on Fridays from 1:25 PM to 2:45 PM to see the skills practiced during the week.
The rink is inside Westfield UTC. Parking validation is available at the front desk and allows rink customers a total of four hours of free parking. Bring the parking ticket inside for validation. Beginner Blades, Beginner Hockey, and Piranhas use daily check-in at 9:00 AM and check-out at 3:00 PM. Figure skating groups follow separate morning schedules. Skaters need a completed ice-skating waiver, and program participation requires registration.
Program registrations must be paid in full when booking unless another arrangement is stated. Refund rules vary by program, and missed sessions may not be refundable.
