Tennis practice, creative projects, and a chance to try different racquet sports give young players several ways to spend summer at Barnes Tennis Center. The San Diego center brings together beginner-friendly camps and training for players who already compete. Children can focus on tennis, pair court time with art, or explore tennis, pickleball, and padel in one program. Each option has its own age range and level of play, so the experience depends on the camp selected.
For younger beginners, Jr. Aces introduces tennis fundamentals to children ages 4–5. Recreational Tennis uses games and challenges suited to a player’s level to develop athletic and technical skills. Tennis and Art adds projects and crafts for ages 6–10, giving participants time for both sport and creativity. The All Racquet Sports camp welcomes ages 6–13 and teaches techniques and rules across three sports, with activities for beginner and intermediate players.
Players ready for competition can choose a different path. Green Ball Tournament camp serves ages 6–10 who can already serve, rally, keep score, and play at the net. The Steve Adamson Tennis Academy option combines technical training, fitness, and match play for ages 7–14. Half-day and full-day formats make the lineup useful for children interested in a shorter tennis morning or a longer day of practice and activities.

Families choose a program by age, interests, and tennis experience. Jr. Aces is a half-day introduction for children in TK and kindergarten, with basic tennis instruction. Recreational Tennis helps beginners work on athletic and technical skills through games and challenges suited to their level. It has both half-day and full-day options. These programs keep the focus on learning the game through active practice.
Creative players can select Tennis and Art, a full-day program that divides time between tennis and art projects with an art teacher. All Racquet Sports is also a full-day choice. Participants learn techniques and rules for tennis, pickleball, and padel at beginner and intermediate levels, rather than concentrating on a single sport.
Competitive options require a different level of readiness. Green Ball Tournament participants must already play USTA Junior Circuit events and be able to serve, rally, score, and play at the net in singles and doubles. Training combines morning drills with afternoon UTR match play. In the Steve Adamson Tennis Academy camp, morning drilling and fitness lead into afternoon match play. A separate Varsity High School Program meets on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

The center’s staff includes tennis and pickleball teaching professionals, supporting a lineup that ranges from introductory play to competitive training.
Parents can send general questions through the center’s online contact form. It collects a name, email address, phone number, and message.
Registration for the recreational, Tennis and Art, All Racquet Sports, and Green Ball Tournament camps requires an online waiver release form. Early drop-off and late pickup are not available for these programs. The registration form asks for the participant’s name and age, along with the selected camp week.
Refunds are available up to 30 days before the registered camp begins. After that point, the purchase is nonrefundable. Youth Tennis San Diego management may consider exceptions on a case-by-case basis.
