Page Museum's Adventure In Nature Summer Camps

Los Angeles, CA, USA

Overview

Welcome to a journey through time, where your kids can delve into the history of Earth and its ancient inhabitants at the Adventure In Nature Summer Camps, run by the Page Museum. This camp is a gateway to a universe filled with intriguing mysteries of environmental science and wildlife, situated within the bustling cityscape of Los Angeles. At this camp, your children don't just read about prehistoric creatures; they come face-to-face with the remnants of these majestic beasts. The saber-toothed cats, dire wolves, and mammoths that once roamed our planet are brought back to life through the impressive collection of Ice Age fossils, preserved in the museum's asphalt deposits, hailing from eras 10,000 to 40,000 years ago.

The camp doesn't just stop at displaying these relics; it takes a step further. In the Fossil Lab, participants witness the meticulous art of paleontology unfold right before their eyes. Volunteers and scientists work tirelessly to prepare fossils, one being the well-known 'Zed,' a male Columbian mammoth recently discovered. The excitement continues with Project 23, a significant endeavor that has unearthed a wealth of fossils. This venture promises to augment the museum's already extensive collection and provide fodder for countless new research projects. Step outside the museum, and the Pleistocene Garden awaits, a snapshot of an era long gone. Life-size replicas of extinct mammals populate the area, painting a vivid picture of life in the Los Angeles Basin in times past. At the Page Museum's Adventure in Nature Summer Camps, your kids will not just learn; they will experience, explore, and truly appreciate the wonders of our natural world. It's more than a camp; it's a time machine to the age of mammoths.
