Campers spend the day moving between the sand and the water, with surfing at the center of a broader beach-camp experience. New surfers begin with an introductory land lesson before entering the ocean, while more experienced campers can join an advanced surf group. Water time can also include bodyboarding, swimming, and bodysurfing, and surfing remains optional for campers who would rather enjoy other beach activities.
The program is built around a structured daily rhythm. A morning meeting covers surf conditions, sunscreen, wetsuits, and introductions, followed by a first water session, lunch, beach games, a second water session, and cleanup before departure. Across the week, short curriculum topics cover camp rules, basic ocean safety, common ocean fears, wipeouts and expectations, surf etiquette, and reflection on what campers learned. That format gives beginners repeated chances to learn the basics while returning surfers can spend more time practicing in the water.
Summer of Surf welcomes ages 7 through 18 and uses low staff ratios, including one-on-one in-water instruction for first-time surfers, campers with anxiety, or campers with special needs when needed. Families can meet the group at the beach or use organized transportation from selected pickup locations. The camp suits children and teens who want an active day outdoors, are curious about surfing or ocean skills, and appreciate having beach games and non-surf water options alongside instruction.
