Stepping onto the court with other young players is central to Camp Programs at HJK Ventures. Held at Balboa Tennis Club in San Diego, these day camps introduce children ages 5–15 to tennis while also welcoming experienced players. Professional coaches work with all skill levels, helping beginners learn the game while more advanced players keep developing their technique. The focus is on practice, skill development, and enjoying time on court with peers.
Each season brings a slightly different approach. Spring Camp focuses on building tennis skills and understanding game strategy, giving players a chance to think about both technique and decisions during play. Summer Camp centers on tennis activities that keep children active during their break. Winter Camp emphasizes maintaining and improving skills through continued practice and personalized coaching. These seasonal programs give young players opportunities to return to the sport and keep working on their game at different times of the year.
An interest in tennis matters more than arriving with a particular level of experience. Some children may be trying the sport for the first time, while others may want more guided practice beyond their usual lessons. Training alongside peers adds a shared activity to the coaching experience, without changing the central focus on tennis. With seasonal options and coaching suited to varied abilities, the camps can appeal to families seeking an active, tennis-focused day program during school breaks.

Instruction centers on tennis skills, with training adapted to a player’s experience. Beginners and advanced participants can work on their game with professional coaches. Rather than following a single focus across all seasons, each camp program has its own emphasis.
Spring Camp develops technique and game strategy. Summer Camp uses tennis activities to keep participants active and engaged during the break. Winter Camp focuses on maintaining and enhancing skills through continued practice and personalized coaching. Across the seasonal programs, young players train with other tennis participants and receive instruction aimed at developing their game.
Maribeth Rivera leads junior development at HJK Ventures. A former NCAA Division I tennis player, she holds PTR and ITF certifications and has more than 20 years of teaching and coaching experience. Her approach adapts to individual students. Director Hiromi Sasano has competed on the WTA tour and holds a PTR High Performance certification. Camp instruction is provided by the professional coaching team.
For junior program registration, parents provide an email address they check daily so they can receive reminders and updates. Registration notifications are sent by email, and the CourtReserve app can be used to check enrollment. Junior clinic and summer camp questions are handled by the Head of Junior Development.
Summer and winter camp registration uses CourtReserve. For junior program account setup, parents create the account in their own name, enter billing information, and add each participating child. Adding the child’s name keeps the enrollment under the participant’s name rather than the parent’s.
For Junior Summer Camps, cancellations made at least 14 days before camp receive a full refund. Cancellations made 7–13 days before camp receive a 50% refund. No refunds are available for cancellations made less than 7 days before camp.
