Building a robot, mixing a science experiment, and creating art can all be part of a summer day at SD STEAM SCHOLARS. These La Mesa day camps bring science, technology, engineering, art, and math together through projects children can make and explore. Campers ages 7–12 work on practical challenges, try creative ideas, and take breaks for outdoor games and movement. The mix suits children who enjoy building, experimenting, and learning by doing.
Summer activities range from coding bots and designing structures to digital art and creative construction. Focused project work alternates with sports and team challenges, giving campers different ways to use their minds and bodies. Summer enrollment is capped at eight campers per week, with one instructor for every eight students. That small-group format gives children individual attention while they work through projects. Full-day and half-day summer options give families a choice of camp length.
School-break camps carry the same STEAM focus into shorter days. Sample projects include water-powered rockets, rubber band-powered cars, and color-changing art. Children also code animations and games, explore patterns inspired by nature, and join outdoor STEAM relays. Across the programs, hands-on learning and active play sit side by side. The result is a camp experience built around making things, exploring ideas, and tackling challenges with others.
